I am not entirely sure if this means the fight was fixed and corruption took place, or if it was just a case of incompetency, or just a hometown decision/homecountry decision. But it absolutely makes it suspect. Loma is about to retire, Haney’s career just took off. Hmm.

not a haney fan. I've made it clear I'm not a fan of these new fighters. I respect a lot of them and even like watching them. But a die hard fan of mfers fighting twice a year is not my thing anymore. I'm older. Yeah, keep crying over this loss. I'll still be here trolling by the end of the yearComment

I stay away from conspiracies, I think they are very cringe. I really hate the complaint from fans that basically all fights that didn’t end how they wanted were fixed, and that some people were paid. Or the good ol “he took a dive”, it’s just so cringe, and I see it thrown around so much that “the fight is fixed” has really lost its luster and doesn’t carry much weight. It’s just used by bitter fans.If true it would make sense. Same way Bob tried to cash out Manny against Horn and fixed that one. Moretti is corrupt as they come. He scored Tank's first knockdown of Ryan as a 10-10 round. How is that a 10-10 round? NSAC is corrupt too, and will not do anything about it.
However, as someone who had Loma losing to Salido and Lopez, predicted Haney would be too physically big for Loma to overcome, and had him comfortably beating Haney, this all, for the first time, looks very suspect. I’ve dismissed the idea so far, but with this new piece of info, I am thinking the worst now. That this fight may have been corrupted and fixed by someone with more interest in Devin Haney’s future.
But then the logical side of me says, how would anyone know to fix this fight? Devin Haney was the favorite, Loma is old and small, a lot of people laughed at the idea that Loma would win. How would someone know to fix this fight?Comment

I think part of the fix is pushing the fighter who has a future. Loma is on the tail end of his career at 35. There isn't a long term investment to be made by pushing him any further. Haney is young, he's a good fighter, and they can orchestrate his career as the next Floyd. There is a winning formula with Haney, and it's a win-win for NSAC, sanctioning bodies, promoters, and all the rest who are on the take.

Look at some of the horrendous scorecards turned in by the same judges over and over. Adelaide Byrd could not have been that incompetent, corruption is the only explanation I can wrap my head around. Jerry Roth and Burt Clements were also suspect judges involved in a lot of high profile and controversial decisions.Comment

Not saying with certainty that he fixed it, but to play devil’s advocate: With over 100 years of experience in the business of boxing, Arum probably knows that he needs to play dumb if he fixed it.
He can’t just go parading Devin Haney around, happily claiming him as the winner, telling Lomachenko he lost, enthusiastically talking about what’s next for Haney.
He’s a slick business man from NY, he would know how to play it off if he fixed the fight.
If he goes around telling everyone that Loma won, he would have people, like you just did for example, saying “Oh well look, he thought Loma won, he couldn’t have fixed it!”
On the same token, he probably won’t viciously go after the judges for this decision that he thinks Loma won “easily”. So easy? Do something about it, use your power to shine light on the judges scoring. If he fixed it, he won’t take action, but he would verbally try to get the heat off of himself by saying he thought Loma won,
Again, i’m not entirely sure what’s going on. I’m just playing devil’s advocate.Comment

This is Bob Arum we're talking about, a man whose company Top Rank was raided by the FBI in 2004 for match-fixing.
People need to stop being so naive when it comes to this stuff. This is big business with a hell of lot of money on the line and there's far more money in the future of an unbeaten 24 year old American than a 35 year old veteran on the way out. It's not a conspiracy, it's just the way the world works unfortunately.Comment
