It is a sign of intent from Haney, making that first move and pushing Lomachenko. At the same time it is also a sign that the magnitude of the occasion is registering on Haney's attitude.

Note: I have stated this numerous times before. Being a favorite and fighting on home ground is? Many times more difficult than being a underdog. I have said this many times before in discussions comparing Anthony Joshua win against Kiltschko vs Fury's win against Kiltschko 'There is less pressure on a fighter, when they are a underdog and fighting away from home'.

Devin Haney has most likely never experienced this amount of pressure before during a fight build up.

Lomachenko has been to the big dance many times before, and has been more composed etc.

Fighters will sign anyway because they Desperate to win a title or the lottery. Boxing IS not a serious sport anymore.

I admit I'm a Loma fan, I have no problem with Haney winning, Loma is already 2 losses anyway, but I wish there was an even playing field.

Loma vs Rigo was garbage, so might be this fight if Devin comes in at 160.
At least Loma didn't ask 36 hours to weight bully even more Rigo...

      Good Luck to both fighters.
160?? Damn!! I think 152 lb tops. Loma will be around 142 lbs, not a huge size disparity in terms of weight

        Loma understands this too.

But he wants to appear to the "audience" that he is like that. This is why people say he wants to be like Tank. (He's more like Ryan Garcia than he is like Tank.) Whatever people think of Tank, Tank is genuine. He is who he is. But with Haney, he comes off as pretend. Someone needs to talk to Devin and tell him to just be himself. If he just accepted who he is, that he comes from wealth, that he has a racially mixed family, things would be going a hundred times better for him. But HE BELIEVES (not that it's true) that he has to make himself look as if he's a part of that urban culture. He's not. He's a kid for the burbs. He can never change that, so he needs to just own it. Maybe it's too late now. I don't know.
Yeah, you are absolutely correct. Could you imagine him ever shoving Shakur Stevenson or Tank Davis like that? Hell nah? It’s because if he does it would be own like a pot of neck bones.

He knows not to fool with the bruthas. He’s trying too hard to be gangsta. Like he’s from the streets but every knows he is posing. He comes from a background of privilege, but he wants to pretend that he’s from the hood.

He knows he is not about that life.

haney showed a different element to his game, usually he pulls fighters towards him instead of pushing them away

To be honest, there are not a lot of white Americans that like boxing. Most white Americans like MMA more than boxing, and a big reason for that is due to wrestling being taught in middle school and high school. You grow up with an appreciation for grappling. Boxing has been relegated to urban gyms in ethnic communities, unfortunately. Maybe not so much in Europe, I don't know. But definitely in the states.

This is one of the reasons why we don't see a lot of white American boxers anymore. Back in the 60s and 70s, you had what was called the "white flight." White people left the cities for the suburbs. They didn't take boxing gyms with them, either. It's unfortunate.

I suppose a lot of mothers don't like their sons getting punched in the face after school. And that's all mothers from all backgrounds, which is one of the reasons our amateur boxing sucks now.

                Anyway, that was a tangent.

BTW: If you ever wondered why so many boxers come from Argentina, they teach boxing in the schools.
                It’s in Japanese schools too.

Yeah that was a little over the top and unnecessary and dangerous, etc.

Hope this isn’t actually a sign of Haney being mentally fragile at this point.

I am not opposed to a jostle, sometimes? I actually think fighters tactically can utilize such tactics.

When Haye smacked Bellew, during their first fight build up it was warranted 'Because Bellew pushed him first, Haye reacted almost instantly because he was braced'.

I still think the push from Haney was a statement of intent, as well as the occasion and pressure having a effect on his composure.

A tad unnecessary, due to all the reasons other posters have mentioned 'But Lomachenko should of really been braced'.

I am quite neutral on the fight, but I have always definitely given Lomachenko a big chance to win 'Superior inside game to date, if he can apply this area of his game. The fight is competitive' etc.
