I have to say Golovkin. He was destroying guys during his prime. You can see that both guys fought Danny Jacobs, and Golovkin knocked him down, and that was despite Danny rehydrated to some high weight. Canelo put a rehydration clause on him but couldn't knock him down. Also, if you notice, when guys get in the ring with Golovkin, he takes years off their fighting life. I think this is why Canelo is looking a little like he's on the slide right now. Guys go into the ring with Golovkin and come out damaged goods. Derevynchenko is one. Probably Murata will never be the same again. You can just go down the list and see that Golovkin takes life out of a guy.

So I have to say Golovkin.

Golovkin in his 20's and early 30's was a different puncher than the one in his mid to late 30's. The snap he used to have, along with naturally heavy hands and being younger, made his punches much more devastating. Throughout his career, he was giving guys injuries due strictly to his punches. Canelo still hits hard, but it's not as heavy and natural as Golovkin's punches were. He has to load up and put more effort into his shots.

Id say pretty even. It would appear it’s GGG but his level of competition outside of like 5 guys is so weak. Canelo would stop everybody that Golovkin did and vice versa.

I think Golovkin probably hit a lot harder than a similarly aged Canelo. Golovkin's has lost a lot of hand speed, he still hits hard but his punches have lost some of their impact.

Classic case of a Foreman-Tyson comparison. One has the very "heavy hands" while the other can load up bigger on one, explosive shot. Golovkin wears you down and everything he lands hurts while Canelo's ability to load a bomb on 1 punch is better.

I think Canelo has more highlight real KOs to be honest. Though are we also talking pre or post steaks Canelo? His Kirkland KO was violent. His Khan KO was devastating (granted Khan moved up in weight for the fight and always had a glass chin). What was GGG's most devastating KO against high opposition? I know he KO'd Curtis Stevens, but David Lemieux KO of Curtis was even more violent. Not sure to be honest. Perhaps somewhat equal when you're talking KOs for their own weights?

Canelo on Mexican beef certainly seems to hit harder than Canelo being watched carefully for PED use. Wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, but so many popping in Reynoso' gym and then all losing their fights and looking bad after the scrutiny came on is a bad look. Gotta go GGG on this one.

When you ask guys who have fought both, they say Golovkin hits harder. If someone is going to know, it's guys who fought both of them.
