Yet another heavyweight title fight has hit a wall. BoxingScene.com has learned that talks have all but ceased in the WBA-ordered Oleksandr Usyk-Daniel Dubois title consolidation bout. The 30-day negotiation period assigned to the proposed bout ended May 2 without a deal in place or hope for any progress. A purse bid is expected to be called in the coming days.

According to the update, they have until May 25. If they are not talking, just get it out of the way and make the purse bid happen. As a rule, both fighters tend to lose in purse bids. Not sure what the hold up is with this fight. If undisputed is really important to Usyk, he has to get these mandatories out of the way. DuBois is not a house hold name, so Usyk has all the leverage here. Should be fairly straight forward.

I am sure the stories will come out. Whatever happens, Usyk needs to hit the accelerator. He is closer to the end of his career than his prime. He will not be able to keep these titles against younger, hungrier fighters all of whom are naturally stronger than him. Get the fights done dude. You have a small window to unify a 2nd division. That could be your legacy.

Usyk’s handlers were idiots to accept a 70/30 split. Now, they have to decide if defending the WBA belt is worth fighting for if this heavyweight tournament ever comes to fruition. A loss or injury would eliminate Usyk from the tournament. Dubois v Usyk is a fight nobody gives a **** about. Usyk would have a hard time selling 5,000 tickets as a headline anywhere, and as bad a Dubios is, he may be the draw in this meaningless fight.
