Comments Thread For: Ismael Barroso: An Injustice To Stop The Fight, I Don't Understand Why It Was Stopped!

Cosmopolitan, Las Vegas - Ismael Barroso (24-4-2, 22 KOs) was shocked, when referee Tony Weeks stepped in to wave off his fight with Rolando 'Rolly' Romero (15-1, 12 KOs) in the ninth round.

Barroso is right because none of the punches Romero landed in the stoppage sequence were landing flush. In addition, Ismael was fighting back and was even rocking Rolly with counter punches of his own by the time of the stoppage.

It was bad referee stoppage. I am no Weeks apologist and didn't agree with his decision. However, he made a judgement call to halt that fight.

In his mind, he probably thought that it would be only a matter of time before Romero would have stopped him anyway. So to prevent any further damage to Barroso he decided to end the fight at that moment.

To be fair; Ismael was gassing and having balance issues at the time of the stoppage. However, if it was left up to me; I would have let him go out on his shield but that's just me.

It was a championship fight and refs usually let those go a bit more. It was a horrible stoppage, I don't think there's two ways about it

If fights were all stopped because there might possibley be further damage or the ref decided that eventually the fight would end in favor of the opposing corner ? come on man, really ? Lets predict the future here? that is not the refs job never has been. If the ref wanted to protect the old man he should have refused to ref the fight. It was a joke, old man looked like he needed a walker to get into the ring, he made old people look young. And Jolly Rolly was an even bigger joke. They stopped the fight bc the old man was ahead on the cards and he might actually win the damn fight. And then they would be exposed again, talking boxing being exposed to what a joke they have become. No disrespect man but i respectfully disagree.

Looks like TW only saw Benjamin face all the time while on the ring.

It was an embarrassing stoppage and to be fair, I don't blame Rolly for anything except getting his rear end kicked by a 40 year old man.

Barroso looked good for his age. A damn shame.
