A good part of boxing is entertainment. Those of us, I assume including you, who follow the sweet science, put up with fighters like Rollie because they create an interest. Gatti became great because of home town appeal. He was never truly a great fighter, but even got put in the HOF (not hard to do these days lol).

I wholeheartedly agree that a fighter doesn't have to be 'great' to provide entertainment value. I understand that people find Rolly's buffoonery entertaining, fair enough. However, I don't find Rolly to be must-watch inside the ring. Ultimately, what keeps the fans' collective attention are the in-ring performances. Gatti had several FOTY contenders throughout his career. Rolly will be fortunate if he ever has one.

Rolly about to talk himself into a 2nd ppv headlining fight , he made around 1.5 million from the Tank fight figures he makes the same against Garcia . 3 million invested right is life changing $, this for a guy most do not consider to be that good. I have to respect it ....

Gatti had some epic battles with Ward! Yes people love fights like that... People watch Rolly because of the potential for him to throw the proverbial lucky punch. I don't think serious fans care much to watch Rolly.

I will say this for Rolly. I find him a lot more charismatic than either of the Paul Brothers. My wife, who loved to watch boxing when De La Hoya fought (could never figure out why ) was glancing at my computer and saw One of the Paul Brothers and said "Oh those are the kind of guys we tried to avoid in High School!" I mean those two managed to create something truly out of nothing. They are not particularly smart, attractive, though they have become savy.

The Ward trilogy is widely lauded, but Gatti's R.R.R. bouts (Rodriguez, Ruelas, Robinson) were also entertaining.

Maybe Romero will eventually become someone to take seriously. He doesn't even have 20 fights yet.
