Definitely su****iously close, wouldn’t surprise me if the promoters conversed and came to a verbal agreement.

Matchroom have never really got behind Callum since he rejected the DeGale fight to enter the WBSS on ITV. You had a guy that won a tournament on terrestrial TV that featured big names like Groves and Eubank and all you’ve done is use him as filler on PPV undercards and fed him to Canelo when he wasn’t fully prepared.

I’m admittedly a little bias when it comes to Smith but I felt they could’ve done a lot more with him following that Groves win.
Very true this, was just thinking that. Could've been a great Liverpool card.

Yeah Smith's not really faced the level of opposition you'd have hoped. I think I read that he had to turn down the fight with Joe Smith Jr in January 2022 because he was expecting a baby though, was that true? Maybe Eddie saw that as a great chance to grab the WBO and he was a bit irritated Callum turned it down if true.

Especially after Beterbiev-Yarde too, you could’ve built on the success of that event and the name recognition Beterbiev gained in the UK.

Wasn’t Callum Johnson the guy getting the Smith fight?

Based on what Callum’s been paid in the past 500k is f*** all as well. I wouldn’t be totally surprised if the fight doesn’t happen.

That's true! I think he just likes sticking it to Eddie Hearn!

What's your take on Prograis signing with MatchRoom? I was shocked he didn't go with TR!

            Was fake news apparently.

I like the idea of Prograis vs Catterall. Not sure what else they have for him though after that fight.

One fight deal probably makes the most sense.

Hitchens before in June would be a good fight, and they may well have Haney for him after Catterall. At that point though, post-Catterall it's probably going to be a mando (he did win a WBC vacant after all)

His share of the Bauderlique bid must've been around that at least, wasn't it about £850k all in? Callum Johnson had to pull out with COVID but I think Smith was offered it first if memory serves, I'm sure Eddie mentioned that once in an interview and it's stuck with me for whatever reason.

I think it’s more likely Arum chucked Sulaiman a bit of cash and found out Matchroom’s exact bid.

Yeah he probably got more for that fight. Callum earned real good money from the WBSS. Multimillions. He’s invested well too from what I understand, owns a lot of property in Liverpool.

That’s likely Eddie being fast and loose with the truth as usual. I know he was offered the DeGale fight in July 2017, it was meant to be on Sky Box Office at the O2 but Smith rejected it to join the WBSS on ITV. Matchroom really didn’t want Smith to enter as it left them in the lurch a bit and they ended up with a pretty poor headline fight, Buglioni vs Summers or Richards I think it was.

Smith went from the talk of 168 to a relative nobody with one azz kicking. What a cruel sport boxing is lol
