The last two great fighters, Mayweather and Pacquiao were always at a size disadvantage. Fans respected that (for the most part).

Usyk is smaller than the other top HW’s, but he’s a unified champion.

Canelo is fighting guys his size at 168.

Lomachenko moved up to 135 for bigger fights, where he is the smaller fighter on fight night.

So, why do some fighters rely on being 15-20lbs heavier than their opponent? And if they don’t have that advantage then they suck? And then if they move up they would also have issues fighting guys their own size?
This question is easier to answer if the question wasn't subliminal....... Which fighter(s) are you referring to?

Not every fighter goes up and has the same success as they did at previous weight classes.....for example Danny Garcia as been average at best since he left 140.

Then you have fighters who look more dominant when they move up........for example Terence Crawford putting every opponent on the canvas since he's moved up from 135.

When I see your question, a couple fighters come to mind like Errol Spence Jr whom fought as a middleweight as an amateur and started his pro career at 154 before moving down after 10 fights to become a contender for a world title at 147lbs.

Which fighters are you referring to in your question?

I'm fine with the existing rules where fighters are only required to weigh at certain weight on day of weigh in. I could care less how much they rehydrate the next day or on fight night. It's been that way since time immemorial. And I don't think they intentionally put that much weigh for the advantage of it. They starve themselves for weeks and it's natural for any human to be excited about gobbling lots of foods they've been deprived of in the past weeks, days.
Do you really think they are "starving" themselves to make weight?

jmm was so small and mayweather wasn't contented with his advantage and cheated jmm on scale. As what jmm said mayweather outweigh him by 17-20lbs at fight night and it was very evident.

No he didn't. HBO weighed him for the first Maidana fight. He was 148. Maidana 165. He only had two more fights after that excluding the McGregor fight.

We don't know how much he weighed against Pacquiao since he refused to weigh himself. So that's a blatant lie

Mayweather didn't miss weight. He didn't make the catchweight in the contract. Not the same thing.

You have 20 yrs of recorded official weights from Mayweather, spread across his entire career right up to and including now doing exhibitions, these are hard evidence weights, and you would have us believe he is 20lbs above his highest ever recorded weight, fck of fool, go research some actual weights before you give a baseless bit of spin.
