Put it this way, how many elite fights/fighters do you see stopped on a body shot? Dropped or hurt, yes but it's rare you see a stoppage at top level.
Nothing against Ryan, he has amazing physical attributes/talent. But there are lots of question marks over him now, not only the body shot stoppage, but decision making, iq, temperament, determination -
Lots get stopped with body shots, Luke Campbel, a lot of GGG victims, it's a bad place especially as Ryan was punching at the time so he is exhaling when it lands, just paralyzes the body and air is hard to get, dont worry his face told the story the shot really hurt no doubt about that, but could he have got up from prone by 9, that's the question I think he could have but hold nothing against him for not doing so, got to be in his shoes.Put it this way, how many elite fights/fighters do you see stopped on a body shot? He absolutely quit.
Tbh and most seemingly don't agree but I didn't even really think it was a good shot and no I don't want to let Tank or anyone else hit me with a bodyshot either.
It wasn't even a liver shot it was a glancing blow to the ribs where he didn't get much leverage.
Most delayed reaction ever, heck he practically boxed on for a full 5 seconds, practically cracked two gormless smiles and just took the 10 count.
He knew he was out of his depth and looked for a way out.
People cr4p on Cotto, Brook etc for taking knees and quitting and they will say oh a bodyshot is different but for me they at least took their knocks and went out on their shield until they physically had nothing left to give. This kid just straight up folded in a huge profile fight.
He made zero adjustments just spammed some overrated winging slap over and over and had no plan B and didn't want to get badly KTFO. The effects of the first counter he got hit with throwing it remained throughout and everytime he threw it after he practically shelled up like a turtle.
Us fans got mugged again and we shouldn't be giving guys who have fought absolutely nobody the benefit of the doubt and giving them a good shot or favouring them just because they have knocked out a few 5'4 low level fighters with a left hook which in truth has no variety to it.
Even his speed is disgustingly overrated sure he can shoeshine fast but in the ring when range, thought, processing etc is involved he isn't even THAT fast.
The sport is in the dirt, I think a lot of the time we are just so bored with getting served up **** that we start over analysing fights and going against our better judgement or what we know, at least that is the case for me these days. Lesson learned.Comment

Luke Campbell is not elite, the GGG opponents who got stopped (in general) were not elite, Brook aside.

You are helping me make my point. The guys who are short of top top level, fringe world level/gatekeeper like Campbell can get stopped.
I said to my friend that I was watching the fight with about the fsct that he was throwing at the same time, however my point stands.Comment

I agree with pretty much everything you said but the glancing blow, there are views that show the body rattling from it, Ive seen more devastating shots but I think the very point of impact was like a Bruce Lee type shot very short looks not hard but it is. plus it landed so it just pops that last bit of air out and that's the winded bit which just freezes somebody. He absolutely quit.

Yes and I don't blame him. Garcia knew he was outmatched and getting back up would only prolong the inevitable. It's better for him to quit and live to fight another day to potentially get a rematch and try again, than to have his brains scrambled.Comment

Looks like Ryan is not elite so it fits.

No footwork, chin up in the air.
No real jab like you're lanky as hell for the weight class and not pumping out a meaningful jab?
an arching right hand and some telegraphed slap of a left hook, a proper arm punch with no variety.
You press he jumps straight back and throws some sloppy checkhook everytime.
This kid has over 200 amateur fights? He's stiff as a board, doesn't look like he's had 20.
Waste of time him having a trainer. His fundamentals are horrible and I am convinced he just does exercises that he enjoys, party tricks if you will. All I ever see is him throwing everything at the same speed on the double end bag, using the speedbag and jogging or getting his head caved in in sparring.
There is no padwork, no heavy bag work, no drills or shadowboxing. No trainer seemingly giving him instructions.
Just across as a pampered kid who doesn't listen and just does what he is comfortable with and no doubt that is why he is so weak mentally because even in training he isn't willing to go to a dark place or be taken out of his comfort zone.Last edited by dan_cov; 04-26-2023, 02:42 AM.Comment

Agree with most of this, although sometimes those scraping sort of body shots can be worse than a thudding one.He absolutely quit.

He has a lot of tools, but to fulfill his potential he needs to go back to the drawing board and get with a trainer who is he really going to push him, spar him hard, and refine his game. But I am not sure he wants to really pay the priceComment
