    Boxing, Europe of North America?

Where is boxing more famous, in Europe or North America? I would like to hear from those who live in Europe. Do people talk about boxing everywhere in the streets, like they do here about football, baseball, etc? I'm just curios.

Boxing is incredibly popular in America compared to United Kingdom.

Put it this way, Froch is the biggest boxer in UK right now. Not a single TV company has shown interest in his fight with Dirrell OR the super 6 tournament.

Darts and Snooker are bigger than boxing in UK. Same goes for cycling and rowing.

Mikkel Kessler is THE biggest male sports star over here. He's known by everybody.

Boxing isn't very popular in the UK at all. Not many people know who the HW champ is.

All people know around here is Ricky Hatton, Mayweather and Pac.

I wouldn't say more famous just more popular. Europe is also a continent so it's likely certain regions/countries will be more into it than others.

You forgot Calzaghe and Khan. We had Lewis, and of course Audley H. until he fell off.

It goes in cycles, they're only known when they're fighting.

                Otherwise, they're forgotten.

Boxing in Germany is doing ok though, people only care about them domextic fighters - Klitschkos, Abraham, Sturm, Sylvester, Huck, Valuev...an average fight night gets around 5 million viewers on free-to-air tv with Klitschkos topping it with as high as 12 million viewers at 11.30 pm - low ratings transfer to 2.5 million viewers for a Saturday night event.

People know de la Hoya, Mayweather (though, more due to WWE), Tyson, Holyfield, RJJ, Joe C, Kessler...Pacman is a nearly unknown quantity.

All in all, boxing is doing ok - not as good as in the US and UK, I suppose, but at least good on TV and in the whole media landscape...

whats it like in europe bat? i can imagine kess being big in denmark but is boxing big in denmark? do you know about other scandinavian countries?

in england and scotland the main talk is about football and i can imagine it being the same in other countries like italy, spain, netherlands, france and possibly germany. in europe id say germany and ireland have more of a boxing following.

in britian i think F1 motorsport, rugby union, snooker, darts, cricket and rugby are all bigger than boxing.

in britian fighters like haye, calzaghe, khan and hatton are known by approx 4/10 people and only those who follow boxing know who the likes of froch, kevin mitchell, brook, cleverly and macklin are. i think boxing is alot bigger in the US
