Ryan Garcia fought the dumbest way he possibly could have fought

Basically gave up his height and reach, chasing, making it easy for Tank. Terrible gameplan.

I believe he was actually hurt and couldn’t continue. His downfall was his dumb gameplan of chasing Tank, hunching over, basically not fighting like the taller man.

Ryan Garcia could have pulled off a Wladimir Klitschko. Instead his tall ass was trying to fight like Mike Tyson against the shorter man. Just dumb.

Also going back in straight lines and not bringing his shield back up after throwing. If only the great Manny Steward was around, he’d be the perfect guy to coach Ryan.

He has very novice like tendencies.

I guess the gameplan was to walk down the shorter Tank and put pressure on him similar to Cruz who had success.

I saw that first KD coming from a mile off, and after that, he was basically gun shy and done.

And it worked for Cruz because he’s like 5’3”. That style is great for shorter fighters. The shorter you are the more it benefits you to get inside.

A tall guy like Garcia doing that to the shorter man just made zero sense. He was basically making it harder on himself, giving up his reach, and height. And Tank is an amazing counterpuncher. Tank is VERY comfortable on the backfoot, counterpunching.

Ry should have made Tank come to him, stay on the outside, use the long reach, stand up tall.

I agree and also Cruz is better than Garcia IMO.

I don't think any gameplan would have worked for him to be honest with his chin in the air like that.

Joe Goosen is responsible for a lot of that. But Ryan really didn't fight much different than he has in other fights. He's never been a fighter that just stands back and uses his reach. That's not his style.

I noticed that during the fight, Garcia was getting tagged clean a lot and that shouldnt be that easy for Tank given the height and reach advantages Ryan has. He just isnt that skilled. Garcia has depended on shear size advantages vs his opponents, look at him vs Fortuna, he looked like he was 2 divisions larger. Hes much larger than Tank too but against a more skilled guy with a big punch that wasnt enough.

I said before the fight Tank is more patient and will catch Garcia over committing. I saw this from the Rolly fight, Rolly trying to pressure him, even winning a round or two but Tank is patient and doesnt let that rattle him, he observes and waits for his opening. Garcia came out guns blazing in round 2, Tank just held him a bit to slow him down and collected data and caught him over committing and after that Garcia slowed down and fought Tank's pace and it was only a matter of time, Tank was catching him clean with left hands and Tank was winning the battle of the lead foot positioning. Garcia having no idea how to use his reach advantage, he could make it a much harder fight for Tank with his reach, height and handspeed, making Tank try to come inside but instead he offered it up to Tank on a silver platter.

Agreed for the most part.. but I don’t think he is capable of using his feet for extended periods of time. It’s just not his style and so I think it bores him or gets him nervous/anxious. I also think he wanted to KO Tank in that second round to fulfill his weirdo prediction. Of course it backfired.

Tank is comfortable in the fire. in most of his amateur fights it was bigger guys trying to walk him down because he was so small.

Jesus can’t even correct Ryan’s flaws at this point. He was so successful until last night. 200+ amateur wins and a KO streak as a pro…his style is cemented. 140 is going to be tough for him. But hopefully he gets matched well to rebuild his confidence. Because come Monday, he’s about to face a lot of emotions and demons of old.
