    Did Jones duck Nunn?

Roy Jones was supposed to fight Michael Nunn for the defence of his WBC lhw title in early '98, but he suddenly wanted to fight Buster Douglas instead and vacated it. As we know, Douglas was garbage by then and it musta been a safer alternative somewhat to fight him rather than a guy like Nunn. Even if he wasn't no longer in his prime, Nunn would still be a very tough fight for Jones and Jones knew it. He was much taller than Jones, yet he wasn't much slower than him. He could also punch and Jones was aware of this.

Ironically, Nunn went on to lose against the clever German fighter Rocchigiani on SD and Jones decided to return to the division right afterwards. Somehow he got restored as the "real" champ without having to fight Rocchigiani and the German himself first got demoted to interim champ and then stripped completely. He sued and got 31 mill in damages. Sordid affair, hm?

Jones came to terms with Rochigianni after the German beat Nunn. Then Rochigianni pulled out of the fight shortly thereafter. It was never remade - Rochigianni was a drunk mess, if I recall.

IMO he would of given Roy hell in his prime would Nunn, he was quicker, better Boxer, better athlete than Tarver and he was left handed.

The Nunn that lost to Rocky would still have given Roy a fight but he prolly wold not have won because he was too past it be then.

        Thanks, I didn't know that.

Yes, it's one of those great fights that never happened. Prime Nunn could outbox anybody, or so it seemed. Jones would have trouble beating him. Since he wouldn't have the speed advantage he normally had.

Jones would have his hands full with either Kalambay or Nunn in their prime.

Rocchigiani never did get the 31 million just to be exact.

H got a ''undisclsed sum'' which you can bet was WAY smaller than 31 mill.

So true. Kalambay was another fast, slick technician who could also hit. And he beat prime McCallum! Nuff said.

In his prime Nunn was one of the best fighters in the world, pound for pound. Even at 175 he was a dangerous opponent. But the loss to Rochigianni was strange. Rochigianni himself was strange.
