    It’s far less brutal.

      Wrestling isn't a combat sport, it's a contact sport.

Boxing is the most dangerous sport in the world.

You're not getting punched in the face in wrestling.

Let me tell you though, a real wrestling match, matched up evenly is a lot harder than going 12 rounds.

You'll be dead after wrestling 3 periods as long as you're evenly matched.

In boxing you're able to take rounds off and take it easy when you're tired.

It is a dangerous sport, but there is an absurd perception that boxing (at the high school level, headgear, etc.) is more dangerous than football. Football at any level is exceedingly more dangerous than amateur boxing, but, once again, it is a perception thing. Boxing has punching, so it must be more dangerous and violent than kids wearing plastic armor and running full speed into one another. I played football at a small school in a small conference and saw some horrible injuries. One of my teammates got knocked into a coma and lives with permanent brain damage. Another got a perforated intestine and needed emergency surgery.

You will never convince me amateur boxing is more dangerous, but people think it is.

My point is if football is allowed, so should boxing be allowed.

Sorry. The thread was about wrestling which isn't nearly as dangerous as football or boxing (not saying it doesn't require more fitness and discipline, though)

Schools will expel kids for defending themselves against bullies with their "zero tolerance" policies. In this political climate, there's very little room for anything that even smacks of violence. And to be fair, I think it would probably exacerbate certain problems. I've been teaching seminars at schools and gotten in the middle of an active shooter situation twice after all. Not sure bullies need sanctioned ways to beat up other kids.
