Do Prime Great Fighters Get Knocked Out Clean?

That entirely depends on the competition that said "prime great figher in his 20's" steps into the ring. That's really the end of the thread.
Tommy Hearns got KO'd twice in his prime, because he dared to step up against SRL and Hagler; two of the most dangerous guys in the sport.Last edited by TheOneAboveAll; 04-08-2023, 10:28 AM.Comment

Oscar De La Hoya stepped in with Trinidad, Mosley, and Vargas. never stopped.
Great fighters usually do not get sparked in their prime.
Mosley never did either.
Vargas is subpar, he was sparked.

Okay, fair points. My point wasn't to say that all fighters definitely get sparked when they step up to elite competition, but rather that their prospects of doing so greatly increase with the level of competition. There are plenty of fighters called great today, but most haven't proved it against the best competition. When I give it some further thought, I would add that it really has as much to do with a fighter's style as it does with the competition. A front-foot pressure fighter like Pacquiao was always more likely to get KO'd than Floyd Mayweather.Comment
