That 'Other' Site Serving Boxing News 24....Hours: "Ryan is a bigger name than Crawford"

    A very interesting thought.

Has Cryan Garcia, despite never having a world title, surpassed Crawford as a name in the boxing business?

That all the belts / unifications really mean nothing compared to your ability to sell yourself to casuals and draw new money?

Social media following means a lot today so yes, Garcia is bigger name. He hasn't achieved anything in the ring yet but still. Bud's ppv numbers are also horrible

That boxing24 site is silly. They really hate Crawford over there. They pump out articles hating on Crawford.

Why ask a question with childish nicknames if you want a serious reponse? Or you don't?

Of course Ryan is a bigger name and it isn't even close. Ryan has the casuals. Crawford, whenever the hell he turns up to fight, he gets BOXING fans to tune in, but he's just not that big enough name that the casual know he's fighting or care. This goes back to the rule of being more active and fighting more often. People at this point forget you when you only fight like once per year. There is less to be attached to that person when you barely see them.

Ryan is the bigger name. I'm sure Jake Paul is too. The sport of boxing has changed. Social media has made a huge impact. Some of the top selling fights of the last couple of years were Youtubers. If you're a boxing purist you know that Crawford is the more accomplished of the two and P4P far and away the better fighter of the two. But that's not enough to sell fights in this era if you don't know how to market yourself. You need to have some showmanship or charisma to sell your brand. We live in the most superficial era of sports and entertainment. Ryan has the flash over substance appeal which will make him a lot of money, but doesn't do much for legacy. To some fighters and fans legacy isn't important.

I don't care if you respond or not. Ignore the thread if you have no answer.

See, here's why the question matters.

Thr vast majority of social media followers are not buying fights.

Being a big name is about asses in seats. Tickets.

So...can we really say Cryan has surpassed Crawford yet? Without a belt? And against whom?
