History Denied: Klitschko Brilliant in Los Angeles Return

By Jake Donovan - Chris Arreola’s ringwalk to “Run This Town” proved a fitting choice among the raucous crowd on hand, Saturday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.

However, the action provided between the ropes suggested the tune as a better theme song for the Klitschko brothers, who clearly run their division by a wider margin than any other champion in the sport today.

Vitali Klitschko was virtually flawless over the course of his heavyweight title defense against Arreola, setting a career high for landed punches before forcing a mercy stoppage after ten rounds in their HBO-televised main event.

Arreola (251 lb, Riverside, CA) came forward from the opening bell, but with minimal success as Klitschko’s massive height and reach advantages were made evident with his ability to control the action on the strength of his jab, also mixing in right uppercuts for good measure.

So effective was Klitschko with his attack that he landed more punches in the opening round (34, out of 88 attempts) than were attempted by Arreola, who only managed a paltry 7 connects out of 32 thrown, far fewer than the 70-80 punches per round he normally releases. [details]

As Jake Donovan said, it was Mayweather vs Marquez fight replay - big heart against skill, talent and intelligence.
But must disagree about Klitschko's fatigue - "arms down by his waists" is Vitaly's fighting style, a trap, provoking opponents to hit his head, Klitschko counter-punches by his jab and right hook.
But, largely, it was fight between a boxer and a fighter, so winner was predetermined.

Cery readable article -as usual- by Jake Donovan

However, I don't agree that Klitschko became tired in (or from) the fifth round. If he was, he wouldn't have been able to make the record of more punches on Arreola than on any other opponent. And also to have forced an inglorious stoppage.

He ALWAYS fights with his mouth open, of course a very bad habit for a boxer, which can easily result in a broken jaw.

However Klitchko is rarely hit flush, and certainly has never been in any danger of taking a wallop hard enough to break his jaw,

Arreola did as well as many of Klitschko's opponents, and better than quite a few. He'll be back, fighting opponents more of his level than championship grade.

        The Klitschkos are "special"!

Yup, that's why Tye Fields, Tyson Fury, Ray Austin, Jameel McCline, Julius Long and Valuev are such great boxers. :ninja1:

I can't believe there are some of you out there who actually think David Haye has a chance against Vitali he would get destroyed probably worse than Arreola did!

Yea at least Arreola has a chin and heart. Haye would get KO'd in like 2 rounds.
