Comments Thread For: Arum Praises Shakur Stevenson, Tells Him He Will 'Surpass' Marvelous Marvin Hagler

Bob Arum has high--generationally high--hopes for Shakur Stevenson. In a video segment recently published on the YouTube channel of Top Rank, Arum's promotional company, the nonagenarian promoter is seen praising Stevenson, heralding him as potentially an even greater fighter than one Marvelous Marvin Hagler, the middleweight champion Arum once promoted.

Happy for Shakur, he's a guy that is extremely talented and wants all the smoke, so he should make 135 even more interesting if these guys will start to except the fights....Cruz and Zepeda.

Good luck to Shakur, but there are no Tommy Hearns level fighters for him to fight. Why even compare him to Hagler, when he fights nothing like Hagler?

Shakur is a great talent, but can't yet talk about being in the stratosphere of Hagler.

Shakur is a very different boxer obviously, and different weight division, and perhaps could be likened to Mayweather.

Unless Shakur can clean out 135 (providing Tank/Haney/Loma/Garcia) are willing to fight him, I'm not seeing it. Even still, I don't see him surpassing Hagler.

“I think it feels amazing and I want to tell you that I appreciate everything you do for Top Rank, for me as a fighter,” Stevenson told Arum
So, is Stevenson implying that Crawford's racism lawsuit is BS?

“I remember years ago, way before you were born, when I was promoting Marvin Hagler,” Arum told Stevenson. “Hagler fought a lot in New England and when became a real big star and started fighting in these big places in Las Vegas, thousands of people would come to New England to watch him fight. And so he was a big, big attraction and every casino wanted Hagler to fight there."

I don't why I read this in Grampa Simpson's voice

Bob mind starting to fail like Sleepy Joe....

Shakur Stevenson has the potential to become a 4 division titlist.

I don't see this kid lose rounds.

Fighters today just want to skip around multiple divisions trying to win as many alphabet belts as they can. For some reason, they think that is really impressive. Fighters like Hagler and Monzon that dominate one division for years impress me much more and leave a more lasting legacy. Just a reflection of our modern world of flash over substance. Not that some modern fighters aren't talented. Their mentality is just not the same.
