Comments Thread For: Usyk Says He Is Adopting 'New Workouts' to Prepare for 'Big and Tall' Fury; Hints at Increasing Weight

Oleksandr Usyk is making some tweaks to his usual preparation for a fight. The unified WBO, WBA, IBF, and IBO heavyweight champion from Ukraine is in deep talks to fight WBC titlist Tyson Fury of Manchester, England, for the undisputed heavyweight championship. April 29 has been identified as the target date, and London's Wembley Arena is the preferred venue. The fight is far from a done deal, as the organizers are in disagreement over compensation.

    Adding weight is not necessary.
Just be his best fighting version.....and don't bend at the waist.

He gains weight to come in at 220. But his weight is always in and around there on fight night since moving up. I doubt he’ll squeeze in more than 225 and be in the kind of shape he needs to be in.

        If it ain't broken.....
Sometimes a guy will overthink things.

Fury would have been the biggest guy Usyk fought and Usyk would have been the best pure boxer Fury would have fought.

It would have been interesting for a few rds.
To see how long would it take Fury to resort to dirty tactics.

wow, Usyk is like a mchine when he is training. His cardiorespiratory system is top, top notch. I guess this fight would be at a very high pace with Usyk trying to overwhelm Fury. But Fury is a smart fighter too. He knowns very well how to pace himself and be effective.

Usyk is trolling, he isn't an idiot, bulking up won't help against Tyson.

            He'll stay lean and fast.

              Interesting.

Explaining one's training regime for a fight that will never happen.

Absolutely. He's never going to be a match for Fury in terms of brute strength and power, even if he comes in looking like Andy Ruiz. All that would do is take away whatever advantages he does have in speed and mobility. Not a good idea.

His English isn't that good, of course. I think what he was trying to say when asked about his weight is that he'll be as heavy as he needs to be, which doesn't necessarily mean he intends bulking up. It could mean the opposite.
