Golovkin is going to be waiting a long time if he's looking for a high status, big paying fight. He's going to need all the cards to fall in the right places if he's hoping for that. Big disappointment to see him drop the belts and not proceed with the fight. Had he went forth with the intent to fight, Lara would very likely have dropped his belt too, though. Fighters these days are looking for the easiest path to success and money. Either fight the hard fights or retire. If you're gonna fight once a year or less, just retire.

Never stated it as a fact but I don't think I'm wrong in thinking that Lara truly ever wanted it. Not hard to go back and look at certain quotes and instances of team Lara making roadblocks/excuses about a GGG fight. I'd rather Golovkin have faced Lara to finally put to rest an annoying "storyline," but team GGG has other **** planned, whatever it may be.

I think it’s pretty clear now that Golovkin doesn’t want to fight Erislandy Lara and never did.

Even when everybody was supposedly ducking him yet Lara was constantly calling him out.
