Ortiz vs Ennis, should've already happened, it appears to me that they are taking the long way to title shot, especially Ennis.
Ennis will be IBF "fully recognized" Champion very soon, either by fighting Spence, or whomever the IBF chooses! Ortiz Jr., if he beats Stanionis, will be the WBA "Regular" Champion. He could've forced the WBO to order him vs. Crawford (just like Rocha), but chose to pursue Stanionis instead! Hopefully they meet in 2023, in a unification fight, but Ennis is not the one taking the long route!

Bozy Ennis Says Boots Will Hurt Vergil Ortiz

Trainer Derek ‘Bozy’ Ennis says unbeaten welterweight contender Vergil Ortiz Jr will get hurt if he faces Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis.

Reacting to Vergil’s former trainer Robert Garcia saying that Boots (29-0, 27 KOs) would need to “kill” Ortiz Jr to get him to stop coming forward, Bozy said that’s what would happen if they left Vergil out there to soak up punishment.

The 24-year-old Vergil (19-0, 19 KOs) could fight for a world title next against WBA ‘regular’ welterweight champion Eimantas Stanionis. That fight was ordered by the World Boxing Association last week, but it’s still unknown if the match will happen or not.

If it did, the winner would need to fight WBA champion Errol ‘The Truth’ Spence, and that would be bad for the Stanionis-Ortiz winner because neither of them is in the same league as Errol talent-wise.

Vergil Ortiz Jr. is a good basic slugger, but as we’ve seen him struggle in his fights against Michael McKinson and Egidijus Kavaliauskas, he’s too one-dimensional and simplistic to have a chance of beating the likes of Boots Ennis, Spence, or Terence Crawford. Those are elite-level fighters, whereas Vergil is a B-level guy.

“I don’t care who we fight for the titles. It can be whoever they put up front. Rashidi [Ellis, [Keith] Thurman, [Vergil] Ortiz, all the top guys,” said trainer Derek ‘Bozy’ Ennis to YSM Sports Media about his son, Jaron’Boots’ Ennis, wanting to fight for one of the welterweight titles if the current champions Errol Spence Jr and Terence Crawford aren’t going to fight.

“When it comes to the titles, we don’t care who we fight when it comes to the titles,” Bozy said about his son, Boots. “‘That Boots will have to kill him in the ring,‘ said Bozy, reacting to being told that Vergil Ortiz’s former trainer Robert Garcia said that he will give Boots problems.

“I don’t think they want that to happen because that’s what will happen if they let him [Vergil Jr] stay in the ring too long with Boots. They talk about he can punch and has got good punching power, and he walks. You ain’t going to walk Boots down. You going to run into something.

“Boots can fight you inside and outside. It’s whatever you want to do; we can do. We can adapt to any situation. He’s [Vergil] a good fighter too. He just fought [Michael] Mckinson. Now look what happened when he fought him, and he’s not a puncher.

“Boots can box and punch. Yeah, that boy [McKinson] was giving him [Ortiz] some angles and different movement. A moving target is hard to hit. You got to keep that pressure. If you put pressure on someone that can punch, you going to run into some shots.

“He’s not going to let you put pressure on him without throwing nothing. We might change up and put pressure on you because we can do that also.

“Everybody knows that Boots fights you and outside,” said Bozy when told that Sergey Lipinets attempted to fight Boots Ennis on the inside and got knocked out in the sixth round.

“All I got to do is give him [Boots] the say so or the go sign, and I tell him when to go in and not to go in. I can tell him when it’s time to go take these guys out.

“Because he’s not with Vergil Ortiz no more, so he has to say something like that to get him to come back with him,” said about Robert Garcia, having previously said that Vergil wouldn’t be ready to fight Boots for four or five years.

“As a matter of fact, he told Cameron Dunkin that he’s not ready for Boots right now. That was way back. Now they flipped the script now, saying this or that. You heard what Boots said. ‘We can fight him [Vergil] right now.’

“If they present it to us, we’re going to take it,” said Bozy about his son Boots Ennis wanting to fight Vergil Ortiz Jr right now.

I agree, Barrios is about one level below the top guy's, because he can't beat one of them, for instance he couldn't beat Tank, or Thurman.

I used to think that Ortiz vs Ennis would be a real good fight, but after reading your explanation for why Ortiz losses to Ennis, I have to agree with you.
Vergil Ortiz is too one dimensional to compete against the multi-talented Jaron "Boots" Ennis, but I would still definitely like to see that fight.

I'm sure GBP and Ortiz would be happy to oblige. Just make sure you can cross the street without issues. Also make sure you don't hide behind someone's skirt when the offer is presented and all of a sudden it can't be made because of network/promotional problems. And while we're at it, just stop mentioning names if you know it can't be made in the first place, will ya? Don't be like others who just want to talk and say things people around want to hear.

I respectfully disagree, while Jaron has demonstrated to be more multifaceted, that doesn't necessarily mean he is better at the things Vergil excels at. Compared to Ennis, Ortiz Jr adapted and improved from facing adversity while Jaron has mostly been fighting easy pickings.

If Jaron Ennis was body worked and well timed by a 140 pounder in Lipinets, so can a more fundamentally sound Vergil Ortiz Jr who has a more polished jab, has good ring generalship, can make adjustments from a wide variety of fighting styles and has potent body work.

He's not mentioning Ennis because Barrios knew there's so many goddam barriers to make a fight with Boots. Even though they're in the same Showtime backyard.

You're doing yourself a disservice by letting his long winded fluff posts that he likes to throw on the wall influence your own opinions. Especially considering his take on what took place against Michael and Mean Machine are biased as hell.

                  1. Vergil was coming off a long layoff from suffering a severe case of Rhabdo against Michael where he had to be hospitalized. Unlike Ennis against Karen,Vergil was able to adjust mid fight,go to McKinsons body by cutting off the ring and eventually stopped Michael who has never been stopped. Ennis on the other hand, did neither, was throwing off balance and looked completely befuddled put there.

                  2. Vergil didn't "struggle with Mran Machine who he himself is levels above anyone Boots has faced. A guy who dropped a top 4p4,maybe THE p4p fighter in all of boxing in Crawford. Again,Vergil had the boxing iq and ability to make a mid fight adjust and instead of trying to **** with a powerful puncher who has great timing like Kava,he started pumping that jab to Kavas body, eventually breaking him down in emphatic fashion.

                  3. Defense....for all of the Ennis praise on here, his defense is actually pretty terrible. If you wTch the Lipinets fight, what little was of the Dulorme fight and him against Karen,he's pretty easily timed and countered. Of course against junior welterweights,it's not a liability but against a powerful full fledged welterweight like Vergil,he is not going to take those same shots for ver long.

                  4. Like the poster that replied to you...Vergil is currently a more polished and experienced fighter. Right now,at this point, Ennis probably doesn't see the end of the fight against Vergil. A year or two, maybe, now? I dont think so,Ennis is still all sizzle and no steak. Only Spence and Crawford have whats necessary to beat a juggernaut like Ortiz at the moment.

And that folks is how you disagree, by respectfully making your point's on why you disagree.
That said I still would like to see this fight take place within 2023, because they're going to tear into each other if they ever fight.

Stated some good points, to add bit more detail:

                      1. Vergil Ortiz was hospitalized and recovering from a life threatening illness called rhabdomyolysis and hasn't fought almost inside a year as he had fought Kava in August 14, 2021 while he was fighting Mckinson at August 6, 2022. At the meantime Mckinson already had a tune up against Martin.

Also unfortunately at 22 years old with also a 8 month delay, Vergil had Covid-19 and a small right arm injury during Robert Garcia's camp before finally stepping up from facing the likes of Samuel Vargas to Maurice Hooker.

He still won in good fashion out landing Hooker by 43 punches against the former world champion from 140, however he wasn't at his best either.
                      Ew-ZA8kXAAIfx4W?format=jpg&name=large.jpg

                      2. Vergil Ortiz Jr, landed almost twice the number of shots once he decided to box, he had also knocked down the Mean Machine five times.

Ortiz was the far more effective puncher of the two, landing 148-of-389 total punches (38%), compared to 75-of-391 (19.2%) for Kavaliauskas. Ortiz was 79-of-262 (30%) with the jab and a potent 69-of-127 (54%) in power punches, though many of the jabs he landed could easily land in that category.

Vergil Ortiz Survives Scare, Drops Kavaliauskas Five Times For Stoppage in Eight - Boxing News (boxingscene.com)
Kavaliauskas besides giving a good performance against Crawford, had knocked out Avanesyan in the sixth round and nearly had 80% knockout ratio by the time he faced Ortiz.

                      3. Vergil Ortiz Jr's defense might not be the overall best and can make improvements in this area, but it is underestimated however as he does tend to slip any major shots by pivoting and intentionally blocks his opponent's shots with his guard/glove to immediately counter with a jab.

                      cyUr96O.gif

We also have seen that he has a good chin and recovers well as he got caught with 7 punch combination and an incidental elbow from the mean machine, also three unintentional head butts from Mckinson. Even if he gets caught with a big shot, he can make the adjustments.

We haven't seen so with Ennis as of yet, who fights the same way with every fighter so far.
