  • Comments Thread For: Golovkin-Lara: WBA Orders March 13 Purse Bid For Middleweight Title Consolidation Bout

There appears to be closure in a months' long effort to consolidate the WBA middleweight title. BoxingScene.com has confirmed that the twice-ordered Gennadiy Golovkin-Erislandy Lara title fight will now head to a March 13 purse bid hearing. The ruling comes nearly a full month after the sanctioning body instructed the two sides to reenter talks on February 8, though with the 15-day negotiation period ending with little progress made.

Just what I have suspected. Lara and Decubas wanted no part of this fight. A fight Lara had been pretending he wanted since time immemorial. He moved up in weight and one of 2 names he mentioned is Golovkin's. Not a peep from his camp when WBA ordered the fight TWICE. Not a peep. And now they're sneaking their way into the Danny Garcia fight.

GGG by KO. From what I've seen, Lara ain't got the legs to run anymore and he's lost more of an edge than GGG.

200k I make more a year and I can walk. Ggg is going to vacate. This is chump change for him.

All of a sudden, Decubas/Lara don't want anything to do with the WBA anymore when that's their ABC org home. That's the belt Decubas always manages to secure for his fighters with ease against nobodies.

Well, I'll be intent on following every development detail of this fight.

I have zero idea what Golovkin needs or wants at this point. He has made generational money from the Canelo fights and DAZN contract. He has had a very good (not great) career. He still can KO people just with his jab, so his power needs to be respected, and he is still fairly technically sound. But he sure is one dimensional and has slowed way down and is very hittable these days.

What does he want in his twilight fights? Does he even really want to keep going? Does this fight make financial sense? Does it set up something big as a farewell bout?

Does even he know any of these answers?

Danny Garcia vs Lara is probably locked in already. I don't expect any effort from Decubas/Lara to make the Golovkin fight happen.
