Only fight Taylor should be taking is Catterall otherwise it's a clear duck. He won that fight and deep down Josh knows it. He doesn't want those problems again. Lopez squeaked by in his last fight, could even be considered a loss for him too. This fight would be a joke.
I can’t see Teo winning especially going overseas. Kambosos destroyed Teo’s confidence. He hasn’t seemed right since that loss. He’s questioning if he still has it after a tough fight and he sounds like a delusional mental case in interviews. I just can’t see him beating Taylor at 140. Another thing is I know he’s going up in weight but what the hell happened to his power punching ability? He was explosive at 35 at 40 I can’t see him making much noise. Taylor easy.
You're right except that Taylor's confidence isn't exactly sky high after the beating Catterall gave him last year.
Teo is the bigger fight with more money. Josh and his team doesn't believe he can beat Catterall so they will take the bigger money fight and has a better chance of winning.
DUCK. The fight with Catterall had been postponed 3 times. It was supposed to happen on March 4th. Taylor held this fight up until the WBC and Arum made the duck possible. Sure Lopez is a good fight. Yes, it makes more money. That doesn't change the fact that Taylor wriggled out of the rematch 3 separate times. Most viewers saw Taylor lose to Catterall the first time around.
I don't get why he just doesn't credit Jack for probably besting him on the night and say he's desperate to put it right.
Constantly sh.its all over Catterall as a fighter, tries to belittle him. It is just silly because it wasnt just a flat performance by Josh - it was too but equally there was a difference in actual boxing ability. Jack Catterall showcased more boxing skill.
That is not to say a more aggressive, determined Josh who had done the weight perfectly, and knew what to expect, might overcome that. This is boxing. Happens all the time.
But....
He makes a c.unt of himself trying to run down Jack all the time. Winds people up.
Josh should be a bit of a treasure to the British boxing scene. Has taken on all comers, was an undisputed champ. He should be a Superstar.
There was a time when Teofimo would be the favorite but now who knows. He has the potential but could squander it if he doesn't get real serious soon. Maybe Teo will come thru fine but we will see.
"I don't think Jack Catterall is going to go anywhere. He will get the chance to rectify it, but I highly doubt he is going to get near me.”
Odd. Earlier in that little monologue he talked about how he and Jack can meet up for their rematch down the road. Yet in the last line, he stated "but I highly doubt he is going to get near me.”
He contradicted himself to a telling degree. First he stated willingness, then he stated doubt. Either way, I see no actual desire from Taylor to right a wrong; to correct the controversy of their first fight. I think Taylor is no longer the fighter he was in 2021. Further, I think he is now mentally a part-timer, actually happy to give up the belts and happy to not have to defend mandatory after mandatory. The pub and the local adoration is a lot more fun than the prospect of three defenses and a certain tough one with Jack.
Teo is mentally shot. If Taylor does what I expect of him his next appearance after Teo will be Feb/March of 2024. In that time his fingers will be crossed on Catterall losing.
Is Josh going to 147? If he is going to try & stay at 140 he needs to get a nutrionist & completely change his approach because, TBH, he looked awful v Catterall.
Pure cowardice by Tartan Tomato Can. Even his rabid fans in Scotland can't defend this. Catterall would beat Lopez and Taylor in the same night, but Catterall doesn't have big money backing him. Very sad what this sport has become.
Its funny. On the eve of the Catterall match I emailed a buddy from Scotland about his view on how it would go. A huge Taylor fan, he was very worried on the outcome given the rumors of less than stellar focus, arrogance and approach of Taylor, who by that time (early 2022) seemed more focused on the pub and living off his accolades than on moving forward to bigger, greater things. His words were eerily resounding, given the ultimate outcome.
BTW, this rabid Taylor fan had Jack winning 9 rounds.
