ESPN poll Boxing dead or Alive?

most of that 78% that voted are either casual fans or just fans of other sports. from the outside it might look at it due to the lack of mega fights and big events. however, to those who follow the sport, the sport it alive and exciting right now. mayweather's back, the question rises: who's better pac or floyd? while we got a ww champ on the horizon who people and media seem to forget about, miguel cotto. not to mention, we got some great rising stars in the welter division.
heavyweight might be not as active or entertaining as other divisions, but the sport itself is alive and well. if you follow the sport you know what's going on and what the future holds. if you follow it from the outside and keep yourself updated thru the media, it'll look like it's not as active or as alive as some other sports that get massive and constant media coverage.Comment

this is a ****ing disgrace. Sad part is I can't even really disagree.
Considering the P4P #3 boxer (JMM before the fight) wasn't even heard of by most people. Think about that and let it sink in for a little bit.
The one thing I can't even argue with is that boxing has the worst marketing over any sport. I'll tell you something even more sad. The average American can name more SOCCER PLAYERS than they can BOXERS! If you don't believe me ask the next nonboxing fan you run into.
I think the sport itself is doing great and there have been so many must see fights in the last couple years. But then again, I'm a boxing fan. In terms of bringing in new fans, boxing is doing JACK ****.Comment

I'd say it's dead. Sure, boxing had a great night last Saturday, but that's the thing, when boxing has a huge night, it's not because of boxing it's because of so-so's name on the poster.
UFC's PPV's are generally solid throughout the year, it may not top the highest grossing boxing PPV for the year, but its numbers are consistent.
If the names ain't PAC or Floyd in the main event, then people generally don't give a ****. UFC 103 had no real big names, but it was still able to pull in a decent # for what it was.Comment
