This trend of fights being delayed because of politics, too many weight divisions, networks and promoters having a monopoly over the sport, loss of income will not last.

There needs to be a COMPLETE overhaul in boxing if it wants to regain it's popularity, and it requires two things.

    1.Less weight divisions
2.Fights need to be broadcast on regular cable.

Considering the P4P #3 boxer (JMM before the fight) wasn't even heard of by most people. Think about that and let it sink in for a little bit.

The one thing I can't even argue with is that boxing has the worst marketing over any sport. I'll tell you something even more sad. The average American can name more SOCCER PLAYERS than they can BOXERS! If you don't believe me ask the next nonboxing fan you run into.

I think the sport itself is doing great and there have been so many must see fights in the last couple years. But then again, I'm a boxing fan. In terms of bringing in new fans, boxing is doing JACK ****.
      qft

most of my non boxing fans only know Ali and tyson...and maybe delahoya. Most of them don't know who is roy jones, mayweather etc..

crazy how everyone except the united states thinks boxing is alive.
the world map says that 88 percent of the world thinks it's alive.. in America however, it is much different.

American boxing is down but not World Boxing. So many ******s and kids shooting each other up and going to jail yet fewer boxing gyms. Go figure. I wonder if they can set up a boxing program in a youth jail so lost kids can find a new path in life. Of course, edudcation at the same time. You can do both.

right now we have some cubans on the rise and one of my favorite prospects, Matt Korobov.

They just do a ****ty job at promoting young talent.
That, and some fighters don't want to fight on regular TV or even ESPN if they aren't getting paid big money which might be more of a promoter thing. Fewer bouts a year also doesn't help.

              1. no kidding, for starters if boxing is "dead" why would we be talking about it right now? boxing being "dead" is an argument made up by the media to sound catchy and creative. "the sport of boxing is falling off" .. how uncreative and boring ... calling boxing "dead" even if it isn't, is a very eye catching and dramatic statement

              2. The fights sell well. Not talking about PPVs here, but live attendance. Granted the Mayweather fight didn't sell out .. but it still had a good 13,000 plus people. If/when the biggest fights of the year are less then half full, then you can call the sport "dead" but sorry for the most part, the fights are well attended

and lastly this is an overdone, tired argument by the media, not bothering bringing MMA into this, so I'll keep it boxing related

clearly the sport isn't on top ... but to call it dead ... uh

how about wait till the sport gets no network coverage from ESPN.

HBO and Showtime give up on it. All the big fights are in half empty arenas

and lastly, it's limited to exclusively being on PPV.

in the meantime, all the "boxing is dead" BS should stop .. unless the blue comes true.
