You don't have to. The money will still be pouring in whether or not a bunch of guys on internet forums believe the numbers or not. The thing is, the UFC is a private company meaning, it has no obligation to report these things to the athletic commissions.

As Royal Burnell stated, Dave Meltzer is as reliable as they come, and has been covering the UFC since the very first UFC in the early 90's.

I guess Richard Schaefer an internet guy who doesn't believe.

Schaefer questioned the legitimacy of UFC pay-per-view results that were leaked. He said HBO is a publicly traded company that would face serious repercussions for releasing false numbers. The UFC, he noted, is a private company with no such concerns.

“I don’t want to talk (expletive) about the UFC. But Dana White can’t do an interview without knocking boxing. If he thinks we’re idiots and don’t know anything about the pay-per-view business, I’ll make him a challenge.

“I am willing to hire one of the top three accounting firms, at my expense, and do an audit of his pay-per-view results. They are nowhere near what is put into the public. There is talk that UFC 100 did 1.6 million, but it barely broke a million. I am willing to pay to have the audits done to prove this.”

White said he would not allow anyone other than fighters with a contractual right to do so to audit his numbers.

“Do you think I’m (expletive) crazy?” he said.

Schaefer just called out UFC's bull**** PPV numbers, Dana White bitched out of course. The numbers are made up, people have been saying it for a long time but now the big players are calling them out and bringing light to it.

According to a poster on this forum this is what Meltzer wrote about his tracking for Mayweather/Marquez. I don't subscribe to his newsletter but this shows the guys tracking methods are full of **** and he's biased as ****.

He does estimates and Eddie Goldman says he might get the leaked numbers directly from the UFC. HBO has to put up factual numbers because it's a publicly traded company, Schaefer just owned Dana White's soul on his bull**** PPV numbers.
