Look, the point is this. Firstly, when UFC started gaining some sales, its Management and their fans started to hate hardcore on boxing fans.. during a time where boxing was not making that great of match-ups, but still pretty good to the true boxing fans because we love the sport... Now when Boxing is doing well again, and UFC PPV number creditability are being questioned, the UFC managment and fan base are getting defensive, acting like little bitches and changing the argument.Alright geniuses. Now, before you guys say anything, just know that I am as big of a boxing fan as any of you here, but just happen to also love MMA.
UFC 103 - 450,000 (Franklin vs. Belfort) Dallas
UFC 102 - 435,000 (Nogueira vs. Couture) Portland
UFC 101 – 900,000 (Penn vs. Florian) Philadelphia
UFC 100 - 1,720,000 (Lesnar vs. Mir II) Vegas
UFC 99 - 360,000 (Franklin vs. W. Silva) Cologne, Germany
UFC 98 - 635,000 (Evans vs. Machida) Vegas
UFC 97 - 625,000 (A. Silva vs. Leites) Montreal, Quebec
UFC 96 - 350,000 (Jackson vs. Jardine) Columbus
UFC 95 - free TV (Sanchez vs. Stevenson) London
UFC 94 - 800,000 (St. Pierre vs. Penn) Vegas
UFC 93 - 320,000 (Henderson vs. Franklin) Dublin, Ireland
6,595,000 total PPV buys in 2009
There are still 2 more PPV events for the UFC in 2009, with the UFC's own version of a cash cow in Brock Lesnar set to fight in December.
The bottom line is...
The UFC doesn't need to compete with boxing. They are doing fine, and so is boxing. Just so that you all know, the above figure is another record breaking number by the UFC for most PPV's sold in a year in history. They broke their own record.
Boxing promoters have taken note of this, and what you see above is the reason why promoters are no longer able to feed you bull**** undercard fights with one good main event fight. You should be thankful, I know I am.
2009 was a good year for boxing, and we're finally getting our money's worth.
1. I don't believe the UFC PPV numbers.. they need network or a ginuine source to release the actual numbers.
2. The sport of Boxing is not designed like UFC, so we don't care about how many PPV buys UFC as a company makes per year.. we care about individual fights.. Boxing is a contract between two fighters with the aid of their promoters and other third interested parties such as athletic commissions.. its just how Boxing is
3. Who gives a f*** about how many sales UFC is doing, the "sport"'s (if you can actually call it that; seriously, what makes it a sport?) actual substance, that is the actual nature of the sport is garbage.. its not a good platform, why why compare the numbers at all?
4. True boxing fans love the actual sport and not how many numbers it does.. we like when it does well because a lot of times we get better fighters out of it and match-ups that otherwise could not be made because of money problems, but we are going to watch if there was no PPV at all.
5. November 14 Cotto vs. Pac Man lol I got Miguel Angel Junito Cotto de Caguas, Puerto Rico to take the win.. War Cotto!!!!Last edited by LRcie03; 09-25-2009, 03:37 PM.Comment

I am pretty sure Dana White turns it into a boxing vs MMA thing, when he claims boxing is dying, it was ****** for Floyd to compete with MMA, MMA is swallowing boxing, no one wants to see Floyd vs whats his name and that the Mayweather fight was boring and horrendous.^ Sure, Floyd Mayweather drew more than a card headlined by Rich Franklin and Vitor Belfort.
If you step back and look at the bigger picture though, the UFC has already broken their own record for PPV sales in a year, in any sport. They've sold more than 6 million PPV's this year, with a few more events still yet to come.
I mean, I love how you morons turn everything into a Boxing vs MMA thing, when really YOU as a fan should be thanking Dana White and the UFC because without them, you'd still be getting 3 bull**** undercard fights with one good main event fight.
This thread is a response to his actions.Comment

Which is solid.
But the overall number doesnt necessarily matter, becuse MMA puts on more ppv events than boxing does.
I enjoy UFC as well, but keep in mind that Dana White and his comments are the driving force between the split of the two sports.Comment

Shocking numbers actually!
And this UFC vs. Boxing competition is really annoying... Two sports, and especially two models of fighting.
Both are doing fine obviously, and there will be one negative from all this.. Floyd will start demanding insane amounts of money for next fights, it will be impossible to do some matches.Comment

According to a poster on this forum this is what Meltzer wrote about his tracking for Mayweather/Marquez. I don't subscribe to his newsletter but this shows the guys tracking methods are full of **** and he's biased as ****.
Nothing is official yet but heres the early estimate from a guy who almost always ends up getting it right in the end, dave meltzer. boxing almost definitely wins this round.
Quote:
At press time, no official numbers are available for the boxing show. Kevin Iole reported a figure for the boxing show of nearly 1 million, which almost certinally isn't true, and he is a guy who has been way off many times before. Based on trending patterns, UFC 103 at press time looks to be in the 375,000 buy range (a little up from UFC 99, down not that much from UFC 102) and the boxing numbers look to be 650,000 to 700,000.Trending patterns have Mayweather vs. Juan Manuel Marquez at this point looking to be less sizeably than the last major boxing blockbuster, Pacquiao vs. Ricky Hatton (which did about 825,000 buys) in May. Some sources have it doubling UFC numbers and others say it beat it handily, but did not double it. UFC had tons more locations take the show when it comes to bars and restaurants, but Mayweather vs. Marquez was broadcast in movie theaters, with no reports on how well it did. UFC 103 also had a one-hour special leading into the PPV, airing two fights live and because those two fights ended quickly, tapes of other fights along with interviews to fill the time. The hour did a 1.0 rating and had 1.4 million viewers, doing a 1.5 in Males 18-49 and 1.1 in Males 35-49.
In the hype going into 9/19, UFC officials were all but conceding the show would not do the PPV numbers boxing would. Dana White, while ripping the show, never said UFC would beat it, and instead said that it would be a better show for the money, and that on PPV, UFC was now a bigger than WWE and boxing combined, which based on this year’s numbers, they technically they will be."Comment

One of the things UFC does very well is that it keeps its cards action packed with good/entertaining fighters. The undercards are what really help the PPV buys. You know you are getting about 4 or 5 fights and depending on how the show goes, upwards of 7 or 8. HBo's ppv construction is pitiful with Lampley and Steward jabbering about subplots, storylines and who knows what else.
If boxing can set up better undercards, it will have a real good shot to reach similar numbers of this consistency.Comment

If by 'its management' you mean Dana White. I've only heard him tell the truth, as far as how he felt about the state of boxing, and the greedy promoters who were killing the sport.
You may find this hard to believe but Dana White comes from a boxing background. Before he took over as UFC president, he was managing his own boxing gym, as well as boxers. He has always stated that he is a boxing fan, but was dissapointed with the way the sport was being milked, and the fans were being robbed blind.
That was part of his whole problem with the way boxing was being run was exactly what you said: Boxing was not making great fights.during a time where boxing was not making that great of match-ups, but still pretty good to the true boxing fans because we love the sport...
Another part of the problem is that the fans really had no choice but to support it, for the reason you stated. Boxing fans had nothing else to get their boxing fix with, so they had to take the ****ty product that was being offered at the time.
I would argue that a large part of why boxing is on the up and up is because promoters finally realized that they could not get away with putting on ****ty cards and fights. Now, people had another avenue to take to get their fix, in the form of the UFC/MMA.Now when Boxing is doing well again, and UFC PPV number creditability are being questioned, the UFC managment and fan base are getting defensive, acting like little bitches and changing the argument.
Notice how much more stacked boxing cards were this year, then in recent times?
Besides, The UFC's PPV numbers and credibility isn't in question. Just look at their revenue, which is on an upward climb in the past 2 years during a recession. They directly correlate with the PPV numbers that have been posted.
You don't have to. The money will still be pouring in whether or not a bunch of guys on internet forums believe the numbers or not. The thing is, the UFC is a private company meaning, it has no obligation to report these things to the athletic commissions.1. I don't believe the UFC PPV numbers.. they need network or a ginuine source to release the actual numbers.
As Royal Burnell stated, Dave Meltzer is as reliable as they come, and has been covering the UFC since the very first UFC in the early 90's.
That's one huge advantage that the UFC has over boxing is that being under one umbrella, they can virtually make any fight happen whenever they want. I wish boxing was the same way, but when you're dealing with so many different people and egos, sometimes the best fights don't get made for whatever reasons.2. The sport of Boxing is not designed like UFC, so we don't care about how many PPV buys UFC as a company makes per year.. we care about individual fights.. Boxing is a contract between two fighters with the aid of their promoters and other third interested parties such as athletic commissions.. its just how Boxing is
The basis of the UFC in the beginning was to find out which martial art would prove the most effective in a real life situation. The UFC is as close to a real life one on one, hand to hand fight as a state's athletic commission would allow.3. Who gives a f*** about how many sales UFC is doing, the "sport"'s (if you can actually call it that; seriously, what makes it a sport?) actual substance, that is the actual nature of the sport is garbage.. its not a good platform, why why compare the numbers at all?
I agree, the numbers don't make any difference in any of our lives as fans. I've stated several times, I'm a fan of both sports, and as a fan all I can ask for is that I get my money's worth when I do pay.4. True boxing fans love the actual sport and not how many numbers it does.. we like when it does well because a lot of times we get better fighters out of it and match-ups that otherwise could not be made because of money problems, but we are going to watch if there was no PPV at all.
