  • Comments Thread For: Frank Warren on Beterbiev-Yarder: It Was Important To Get Home Advantage

Frank Warren is always going to back his man, but he says that one of the reasons he was able to gain home advantage for Anthony Yarde against Artur Beterbiev this weekend was that the champion's promoters, Top Rank, believe the fight is straightforward for their man.

At 38, Beterbiev is still young enough and in his prime.

The crowd can't help you fight in the ring. Credit to Yarde though, very brave to fight a guy who's somewhat of a monster in this division.

38 is not young enough. Beterbiev loses and people will claim he's old father time caught up etc etc

The crowd can give you a little confidence boost and some psychological comfort. Perhaps even a little shot of adrenaline if you believe all that Rocky Balboa fairytale nonsense.

However, they cannot give you extra skills, strength or power.

I don't believe there is any athlete who is in their prime at 38. Beterbiev is obviously past his athletic peak prime performance but what he is now is still enough to get by 99.999999999 professional male LHW boxers - perhaps there is one or 2 in ten billion who are superior. And perhaps not.

I suppose home advantage helps Yarde.

He's nearer to his local hospital.

Can this guys be any more obvious his fighter needs a home advantage and Beterviev to be old to stand a chance? He can't help but admit he hopes they're catching Beterbiev at the right time.

Power and skills are the last things to fade with age, and those are Beterbiev's major characteristics. It's not like he's been depending on youthful reflexes and explosiveness to win fights... Still should be reasonably interesting for as long as it lasts, while we wait for the promoters to give us the fight we want in this division. Not that it looks promising.

Frank Warren is right. It is important to get home ring advantage. I mean it's very huge because if the fight is close, goes the distance and Beterbiev grows old over night then Anthony Yarde would have the advantage because he would be fighting on his home soil.
