Comments Thread For: Bivol: I Want to Get More Belts at 175 or 168, Whichever is Easier

Dmitry Bivol's biggest ambition in boxing is to collect more titles, but he realizes some opportunities are easier to be had than others. The WBA light heavyweight champion from Russia has made it clear his top priority is to become an undisputed 175-pound champion. More recently he has expressed interest in competing at 168, specifically for a rematch with that division's undisputed champion, Canelo Alvarez.

Hes in his early 30s, so he should be a bit cautious at 168, yeah canelo is declining too so I think he still wins at 168 and hes a smart fighter so I think he makes the cut if he says he can...

just historically in boxing, first ever weight cuts to a lower weight dont go well for fighters in their 30s.

"Last summer, upon Beterbiev’s knockout of Joe Smith Jr. to collect his third 175-pound belt, Arum told this outlet that he would not countenance a scenario in which he would let Beterbiev fight on a Matchroom-promoted card because, in that scenario, the event would then have to be streamed by Hearn's partner, DAZN, the over-the-top subscription streaming service that Arum has long ridiculed for middling viewership. Arum's Top Rank has a partnership with ESPN and "loaning" Beterbeiv out to a competitor would not be in their corporate interests."

That's what makes it so surprising that PBC and DAZN came to an agreement for Tank vs. Garcia! Also shocking that Fulton vs. Inoue is in the works too! Maybe times are changing, however it doesn't look like anyone wants to play with MatchRoom!

Either road he takes is gonna be a difficult one. Beterbiev at 175 is the one the people want, but to come down to 168 for all of Canelo's belts would probably be the better option if he can make 168 without struggling. Far more money and can really solidify himself more than he already has as a true great if he can knock off Canelo a second time in his weight class for all the belts. Either way Bivol has some tough choices to make soon.

Yeah, the Fulton vs Inoue fight was a big surprise. I wasn't really a fulton fan before but I definitely gained a lot of respect for him taking this fight instead of vacating to make in house fights. The tank vs Garcia fight wasn't a surprise tho. They're 2 of the biggest names in the sport so there's enough money to go around and Oscar is usually willing to work with other promotors. I've had 2 people at work that aren't boxing fans, but know I am, ask me if I wanna split it with them. The winner of that fight is gonna b the face of boxing for casuals, especially with the younger generation. Fury more with the older casuals.

Well it won't be with Canelo, because he is looking for the 'easier' fights again too.

Canelo will pay Bivol a ridiculous sum of money to get the rematch at 168.

He doesn't get props for already making Canelo look silly at 175?
