I would still like to see him fight Tank! That would be BIG business in the DMV! If not him, then Tank vs. Gary Antuanne Russell would be a goodie too!

Gary Russell career could've been so much better, as far as number of fight's, and title defense's are concerned (squandered opportunities).
Those thing's really matter, especially when the conversation of who was better at a particular weight, pound for pound, or in the history of the sport.
Five successful defenses in seven year's, and fighting only eight time's in eight year's is just anemic, what was he trying to do prolong his reign?
If his master plan was to extend his fighting career by only fighting once a year to preserve his body, and remain champion for a longer period of time.
Then that plan was a bust, he didn't fight some of the fighter's that fan's were eagerly anticipating, shortened the amount of defenses he could've made.
Fan's were left wondering if he had retired at certain point's of his career, because of the lack of activity during his career.
So he may have walked around bragging that he was the featherweight champion of the world for Seven year's, but who did you fight Gary?
More importantly who didn't you fight, that you could've who would've helped cement your place in the history of boxing?

I'm not hating here, just stating a valid point of view, that we all know how good Gary was, and how much better his career could've been.
If he only would've fought more often, he could've beaten some of those marquee names/high profile fighter's, but it just didn't happen!

Stephen Fulton vs Brandon Figueroa rematch headlines February 25th Showtime tripleheader

As for the fight itself, there’s not a lot of bad things to say about it. The two put on an ultra-competitive, hugely entertaining battle the first time around and I don’t see an extra four pounds preventing a repeat.

Also on the show is Subriel Matias vs Jeremias Ponce, previously announced for two weeks prior. I suppose it’s fair to let them have one last delay for old time’s sake. Should an official announcement come today, I’ll update the post with the third piece of the main card.

“There’s no need to stay at 26,” said Russell.

Because, if he can somehow win a championship at 130, he can muck that up too, by going into a 'holding pattern, and fighting once every 2 years until retirement.

How do these guys ever make money fighting tomato cans or sitting on their hands?

Haymon didn't seem to want him fighting Santa Cruz or Tank. I think he would have won those fights. He was calling them out. Same platform. Easily put together.

They clearly didn't want him anywhere near santa cruz. A blatant duck if there has ever been one. I give him a pass on tank but russell has claimed he wanted the fight.

Russell has gotten seven figures to fight some of the garbage fights he has been in over the last few years.

Fulton figueroa was not entertaining. it was an ugly fight that fulton clearly won. There is zero need for a rematch but it is a way for fulton to scramble away from 122 asap.

Thank's for the update, but I had heard about it within the past few day's. It really irk's me that they've delayed it for another 2 week's (yet again) damn it!
Is this championship fight between these two fighter's cursed to never take place or what? It just seem's very su****ious to me that it get's postponed constantly.
Also on that card will be a fight between Joseph "Blessed Hands" Adorno 17-1-2 (14 KO's) vs Elvis "The Dominican Kid" Rodriguez 13-1-1 (12 KO's).
Somebodies getting knocked out in ruthless fashion in both of those fight's, need I tell you who I'm rooting for brother Bronx2245.

Whenever I see that name Bronx2245, it reminds me of back in the day graffiti writer's, like "Stay High 149", and "Super Cool 223", with a moniker like "Bronx2245", you must've been down with the underground (subway), and street graffiti writer's.

You didn't comment on my post in regard's to Gary Russell minimizing his own career due to lack of activity on his part throughout the latter part of his career.

Stephen Fulton's rematch against Brandon Figueroa should be an even more fiercely contested battle, than the first fight.
Brandon will be looking to get his revenge against the fighter who ended his undefeated run, and Stephen will do everything in his power to stay undefeated.
