  • Comments Thread For: Rashidi Ellis: "I'm Taking Over The Welterweight Division"

Gone are the days when Rashidi Ellis would be forced to watch the welterweight action from the bench. With an impending matchup against Roiman Villa on January 7th, at the Capital One Arena in Washington D.C., the speedy contender remains optimistic that his championship moment is well on its way.

Sucks that he's almost 30. Been seeing him on and off for a while and always thought he would be in the mix with the big dogs already. Man is a solid fighter.

Speedy should be fighting ranked opponents based on his level of talent, but the inactivity keeps holding him back. Hopefully, he has a great year and he will be in the top 5 by the end, because he has the skills to compete with all of the fighters in the rankings right now.

I have seen him, but would add he’s decent but not special! In the division today with the crop of talent you must be special so I believe he loses at the top level easily, just my observation.

All I can say is, beware of Columbians who can punch. If Rashidi doesn't focus on the man in front of him, he may be dreaming of dominating the division while lying unconscious on the canvas.

Rashidi Ellis Announces Signing With Premier Boxing Champions
                April 2, 2022

Oscar De La Hoya, the founder of Golden Boy, recently responded to a query regarding Ellis’ protracted layoff. De La Hoya said he tried at one point to offer Ellis a deal to fight Vergil Ortiz, the hard hitting Texan regarded as one of the crown ***els on the Golden Boy roster, but claimed that Ellis turned it down.

“We recently offered him a Vergil fight,” De La Hoya said on The DAZN Boxing Show. “If fighters are going to be turning down fights, there’s nothing I can do.”

Looking to see if Ellis ever denied this, haven't found anything yet. No Bueno! You can't afford to turn down opportunities like that!

That would be a good undercard for Blair the Flair vs Thurman!!!
