Comments Thread For: Shakur Stevenson Believes That Vasiliy Lomachenko Is Limited In Skills

Wasn’t small when people were creaming over the Linares & Campbell wins and he was P4P #1/2.
Time exposes all and Linares and Campbell were nothing to hit home about. 135 was weak back then..The current crop of lightweights are much better. Linares, Campbell, Pedraza, Commey were all big guys - just as big as Haney and bigger than Shakur. All I’m hearing is excuses.. Loma isn’t no Pac or Floyd. Never was and never will be
So true. He's better than both of them!Comment

Vasyl isn't limited. But he is a borderline head hunter. Nearly pure straight to the head until an opponent is overwhelmed and then he starts getting cute with his punch selection.
The only thing Shakur has going for him vs Lomachenko is his size advantage. Bigger guy, longer reach, advantages.
Otherwise, there's nothing else. He keeps thinking actual competition is sweet and he'll end up like Broner sooner than later.
He's not Floyd. Don't write checks you can't really cash.Comment

I saw them all. Pernell was phenomenally skilled, but more so defensively. Maybe that was by choice, but he chose to fight that way. I never bought into the the idea that the sweet science = "art of hitting and not getting hit". Indirectly it's part of it, but it's only a tool/methodology to accomplish the objective. What is the objective? The entire goal of a boxing match, since the beginning of time, is to knock your opponent out, period. Rounds, subjective scoring, and decisions were only implemented b/c if not, fighters would die, and/or 40 round fights between evenly matched weren't practical. So yes, Mayweather is/was an absolutely gorgeous fighter, as was Pernell, no doubt about it, and my thoughts on Loma aren't in any way disparaging to them. Roy? He was on another level athletically, maybe than anyone else ever - but as soon as that went away he was an average fighter at best; his actual boxing skills weren't really up to snuff, so when his insane athletic advantage was gone it spelled total doom. Loma is gifted physically, but his actual boxing skills as well as mentality to go for the finish and not play it safe make him the most impressive fighter I've ever seen.Comment

Some of those "certain" Americans will root against American fighters like Spence, Crawford, Wilder, Stevenson, Haney, or Ennis. But root for non American fighters like Lomachenko, Usyk, Canelo, and Fury. So you're right. The forum is littered with them.Last edited by joseph5620; 01-04-2023, 02:38 AM.Comment

God forbid someone isn't on Loma's jock like ESPN and Teddy Atlas. How dare Shakur go against the agenda !Comment

I like how some of the young fighters want to fight and are making waves. Amazing how people forgot some of the nonsense we have had to listen to this past generation
Wilder - Good things come to those who wait, Slave contract, baby bottles
Canelo - i fight for pride not belts but fight a UK lame for the belt
Keef - I'm not a journeyman, 600-day layoffs
Spence - Why fight you for undisputed when i can fight the easy fights?
Charlo - 10 yr feud with a nobody he can't fight for 10 million with a guaranteed rematch.
Fury - drugs, mental illness, peds, jumping fences at 400 lbs and twisting his ankle
And people are crying around Shakur aggressively going for fights.

I believe that you're overlooking one word that you stated, AMATEUR, its completely different from the professional level, but still impressive. Its less taxing on the body, less rounds, no 'to the death ' fights, big gloves and headgear, different style of fighting, more for points than damage, and definitely a different level of opponents. Loma was older and more experienced than most fighters in the amateurs after his first 200 fights, yet he stayed for almost 200 more. After he became a professional, 17-2, looks much different than 396-1.Comment
