He chose his weight class, so he gets the opposition that is there. There was no complaining when he was going for undisputed before against Teo. As a matter of fact, it was applauded as the right way to do things, such as, "Why would he fight Haney for his e-mail belt, when, as the WBC Franchise champion, he can just fight Teo for undisputed? " No one was making excuses about Loma's size before the fight, because they actually felt like he was going to win.

Reading posts on here just further justify staying away from the internet. It's absolutely hilarious listening to people discuss someone like Loma trying to pick who he's going to fight when he's literally the prime example of fighting anybody and everybody. Haney seems to want to fight the best now as well. We'll see.

loma has had a great career and is just not as good at 135, nothing wrong with that, but you just cant judge him on 135, when loma was top dog for a while he got a lot of crap, now hes not so good and he still gets a lot of crap telling people that he was actually never really that good at all, thats just weird stuffComment

It's internet boys. This doesn't happen in real boxing gyms and around real boxing people.loma has had a great career and is just not as good at 135, nothing wrong with that, but you just cant judge him on 135, when loma was top dog for a while he got a lot of crap, now hes not so good and he still gets a lot of crap telling people that he was actually never really that good at all, thats just weird stuffComment

Yeah, I don't see him winning vs Floyd or Pac, but the Loma that beat Gary Russell Jr and Nicholas Walters is a handful for anybody. I think those were exceptional professional wins. Shakur doesn't have any wins at that level yet. Hopefully we will see him fight Loma at some point. I think he's talking a lot of nonsense....maybe hoping to stir up a fight.
I believe that Loma has great skills, just not to the level that fhey are exaggerated. For instance, if Shakur met Loma in the ring at the height of what was considered Loma's prime at 130, though it just doesn't sound right when he's only 34, I believe Stevenson would beat him handily, with no controversy. I believe Floyd would have knocked him out, as he did to everyone, at 130, and Pacquiao would have been an extremely dangerous fight for Loma, possibly also knocking him out. Olympic style boxing is completely different than the professional level.Comment

That is true! Anyone who has had conversations with boxing insiders such as managers, promoters, boxing commentators know great fighters and great skills and you never see them calling a fighter a midget or using expressions like "fighting someone's leftovers" or "Bum". When I spoke to John Scully, former light heavyweight contender he was annoyed when people said Roy Jones only relied on speed and timing and not skills because skills comprise of many things. He personally knew Jones. You don't win medals by having limited skills and Stevenson knows that and is simply trying to get a fight with Loma or doesn't see how time erodes skills. At 28 Loma showed more skills that have diminished with age and higher weights.Last edited by richardt; 01-03-2023, 03:39 PM.Comment

Loma wasn't at lightweight his entire career, he moved up as most do when their bodies begin to fill out and mature. We've seen Floyd move up through 5 weight classes and remain dominant through his late thirties, Pacquiao moved up through 8 and remained a force, and Crawford is about to be on his fourth weight class at 35 years old and still elite. All of these guys relied on their athleticism and footspeed, but only Loma gets the excuses.
Using age without taking into account style and weightclass is ******. Tell me how many mid 30 year old lightweight champions have there been? Answer, not many. The only one I can think of in recent memory is Casamayor. A smaller older fighter that relies on athleticism and footspeed isn't going to be in his prime in his mid 30's unless you seriously think a person in their 30s is in their athletic prime.Comment

Wasn’t small when people were creaming over the Linares & Campbell wins and he was P4P #1/2.
Time exposes all and Linares and Campbell were nothing to hit home about. 135 was weak back then..The current crop of lightweights are much better. Linares, Campbell, Pedraza, Commey were all big guys - just as big as Haney and bigger than Shakur. All I’m hearing is excuses.. Loma isn’t no Pac or Floyd. Never was and never will beComment
