Comments Thread For: Arum Interested in Making Haney vs. Lopez at 140 - If Both Win Upcoming Bouts

Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum has big plans ahead for former unified lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez. In 2020, Lopez's career shot up to the biggest heights when he upset Vasiliy Lomachenko with a twelve round unanimous decision in their lightweight unification.

What does Haney gain from fighting Lopez, when he is undisputed champion? The move that makes sense is that he use his WBO belt to be made mandatory of Taylor/Catteral winner.

Even in his 90's Bob Arum is a supra-genius.

I'm extremely critical of both fighters, but I'll be heavily favoring Teofimo in this one.

If think Haney has beard problems at 135 which is why he's career has been carefully paced, that's coming with him to 140. He's not going to be able to keep guys of him with just a jab and hold gameplan at 140. The bigger guys can wrangle him and land in the clinch.

Yes, Teo's been dropped, but they're all flash and some balance kd's. He's never really hurt and in grave danger. Teo has shown us he can get up off the canvas and fight strong.

Can Haney do the same? We've only seen him rocked and maybe when he's rocked enough to hit canvas; and he will, can he get up to win a fight?

When Linares zapped him, he went into run-n-huggies mode for 2-3 rounds straight. He simply could not recover. If Teo drops him, I think he can stop him.

Easy first fight at 140 for Haney, then on to real challenges.

I agree, Devin fights his chin too high, I always said Haney's chin is there for the taking. I would bot be surprised if Loma hurts Haney bad. Haney should score more points against a shorter Loma who is losing his legs fight after fight and secure a UD, but don't be surprised if Loma chins him with a counter left hand that Devin didn't see coming.

I also believe Teo fire power could trouble Haney. Martin Beats Garcia and arguably Téo, maybe the guy is good ... But Teo is a nutcase so you never know.

If u think Teofimo was reaching and missing against Sandor Martin, what will happen against Haney? Haney is faster and slicker than Sandor. Plus Haney's offense is sharper. Whereas Martin made Teo miss but didn't always make him pay, Devin will be in there punishing Teofimo all night. Devin twice destroyed the same man who kicked Teofimo's ass with ease. And Devin is always improving whereas Teofimo seems to be losing sharpness and mental strength too. Devin might retire him

Linares got dropped in round 1.
Haney got hurt in round 10.

I would rather see Prograis vs. Haney for the WBC title, and Teofimo Lopez vs. the winner of Barboza Jr vs. Pedraza!

I get the impression Haney is re-signing with TR.
