Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum has big plans ahead for former unified lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez.

In 2020, Lopez's career shot up to the biggest heights when he upset Vasiliy Lomachenko with a twelve round unanimous decision in their lightweight unification.

But in 2021, Lopez was defeated in his very first world title defense - when he himself was upset over twelve rounds by George Kambosos.

Back in August, Lopez moved up and made his official junior welterweight debut with a stoppage victory over Pedro Campa.

He then returned last month, but this time around Lopez had all he could handle by getting off the floor to win a ten round split decision.

WBC junior welterweight champion Regis Prograis would love to get Lopez in the ring.

However, Arum likes the idea of a future fight between Lopez and current undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney.

Haney, who is coming off back to back wins over Kambosos, is being lined up to face Lomachenko in the coming months.

Win or lose, Haney intends to move up in weight to 140-pounds.

If everything goes as planned, Lopez would have at least one more fight before Haney makes his move to the junior welterweight ranks.

"Regis Prograis is a possibility [for Lopez]. There are other possibilities for Teofimo. One of the things is for him to take another fight and, if Haney beats Lomachenko, have Haney fight Teofimo in a non-title fight. That would be a big fight. So there are a lot of ways to go with these guys," Arum explained to Sky Sports.
