And if he beats mosley, will you not consider that a step up because mosley was over the hill (not now, but he will suddenly be after the mayweather fight)?

If you look at mayweather's last five opponents, including marquez, and compare it to cotto's, pac's or shane mosley's last five, an objective observer will see that mayweather has fought higher rated competition (based on the pound-for-pound and division ratings) than all of these guys. The only boxer whose resume over his last five fights compares to mayweather is....wait for it haters.......juan manuel marquez!!!
i am one who thinks floyd should fight mosley and i will be rooting for mosley,, but if he losses i guarantee i wont be leaving messages on boxingscene talking bout he beat an over the hill fighter . I guarantee that. I just wanna see great fights and thats one of those fights. This fight has been bewing for quiet sometime. I wont say mosley is over the hill cause of the way he destroyed margarito,,, that would definitly make me a hypocrite.

The attendance was significantly higher than Cotto-Margarito. And over 90% of tickets sold at face value. In all, it did better than I expected it would.

the live gate is only half the story....boxing ppv's make the most revenue from PPV's....only a certain amount of tickets go on sale to the public, in the first place....tickets are usually held for sponsors, guests, etc...so while the gate counts, its not the biggest indicator of whether a fight is a success or not....given the current state of the country, i'm sure not as many ppl are traveling to vegas....fights or otherwise.

without realizing it's actually cause of marquez and the mex. independance day that it did this good.. i say 23ppv buys credited to foney.. the rest marquz! FACT!
what idiots like you don't realize is that floyd just wants to draw interest....based on the way he acts, i dont think its unreasonable to suggest he probably tries harder to make ppl hate him, than like him. dude obviously doesn't care whether you show up or view to see him win, or lose, as long as you show up, or view.....so, if you watched the fight, you fell into the trap either way. if 80% of the gate was marquez fans, that's excellent for floyd, given that 80% of the crowd, actually showed up and bought tickets, thinking marquez had a chance....

Wait until the end of the week to get the PPV numbers and you'll see that the self-proclaimed "biggest attraction in boxing" failed to live up to his own words. Which is a pity because it's a win-win for us fans when anybody, not just Floyd, does good numbers.

I did watch it at a movie theater in St. Louis, MO and the place was packed.
i saw it at the movies too....i got there early, and it was empty for the most part....i was like "****, this **** is gonna flop BIGTIME......" by the time the john-juarez fight ended, there were ppl sitting on the floor in the isles....

like i posted above.....of you're a marquez fan and you paid for tickets, thinking he had a chance to win...you fell into the trap....who gives a **** who was in the audience supporting who? all parties involved just wanted you to show up....

you just have more power, energy and stamina when you dont have to lose those extra pounds....would Floyd still have won? SURE....he was fighting a LW for crying out loud....

but he may have not dominate or been able to take some shots as well as he did on Sat..
wrong.....mayweather's team didn't approach marquez's team "the day of" the fight....they approached them at least 3 days before about the weight issue. only an idiot would think losing 2 pounds in 3 days changes the course of the fight.....if anything, it was a marketing tacting to get idiots saying, "floyd is having weight issues." so they buy the fight thinking marquez has a chance.

fact is, i got ppl i work with that take ****in' diet pills, and lose more than 2 pounds in 3 days.

1 million is not bad??? like i said before, IF reports are accurate, and this fight did 1 million or more in ppv buys, not only did this fight sell more than pacman-jmm I & II combined, i guarantee this **** outsells pacman-cotto too....

wanna get a feel for how good 1 million + ppv buys are? do some research and see how many fights do those kind of numbers.....

**** the live gate, if this **** did over a million buys, the ****in audience in the arena could've been empty and this would be considered an OVERWHELMING success.

It makes me wonder why the **** they always hype up the worst possible matchups, then when we get actual great fights that can draw more people into boxing, they do below expectations. Imagine Cotto-Margarito got the same treatment that this recent scam got? Remember all the hype Floyd-Oscar got? "World Awaits". Yeah right, we awaited one of the worst matchups remembered. Oh yeah and both of these co-starred Floyd, man can he sell crap.

the gate receipts is already a success by itself.....majority expected less.
but the promoters are "a bit" disappointed, considering what they have (overly)done to sell the fyt.
the ppv is where the bulk of the income comes.
baseline, imo, is at 500K buys.
over or less spells success or flop.
gross and net proceeds should be ppositive counting the cinema sales.
one poster said it was full pack where he watched...should be in others as well.

heck of a couuntrymen he got...

PBF cant hype a fight with JMM.
