Yeah he just trying to sell the fight, he's going to say anything to get people to buy. No one in there right mind thought that.Comment

yeah I'm sure he was trying to sell the fight, make it appear to the casual fan that it was bigger than it actual was. I predicted 400-500k as well, I'm pretty surprised at the outcome (and happy because any PPV that does that well in boxing is GREAT for the sport in general). Makes people realize it isn't dead.Comment

i dont see how they can be disappointed. for the minimal risk mayweather took, this fight got major hype and attention paid to it, I dont know what more they could have possibly expected from fans, i think they got the absolute max ppl they could have possibly got to watch this mockery of the sportComment

Agreed, I heard that HBo wanted 500k as a baseline to cover expences and promotion and more than that is a good result, 1 million is an excellent sell given the current climate.Comment

This was obvious.
Although gate revenue isn't where the lion's share of profit is made, it does say something about the public's interest in this fight.
Nobody asked for this fight.
The fact that they asked people to pay for it is a slap in the face of the fans. Especially after it being exposed for the mismatch that it was.
It's been established that the anti-Mayweather cult are ardent believers in the practices of ****sm and communism, since their comments imply if you're a Mayweather fan, your rights and opinions do not count, and that you must be mentally inferior, corrupt, or ******ed.
So who are you to speak for everyone else? A slap in the face how exactly... noone is forcing you to buy it, watch it, or even comment about it. And the millions of Floyd Mayweather Jr. fans were asking for a return. If you want to watch PacMan fight, noone is going to speak out against you- go knock yourself out. I'll pay another $50 to see his next fight, too. Since you don't earn my money for me, you can't speak on how me, or anyone else, should be spending it. The End.Comment

wow since when is 12,000 an unsuccesful number? especially for a tune up. the PPV is where they really hit the jack pot. people didnt feel confident enough to pay all that money to go see it live but they were willing to shell out $50 at their home.Comment

According to a report in USA Today, last Saturday's bout between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Juan Manuel Marquez was not a sold out event and it performed below expectations with the live gate at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The gate generated a total of $6,811,300. The total attendance was 13,116. Only 12,009 of those tickets were sold at face value, 895 were comps and 2,645 went unsold. It was Mayweather's first fight in nearly two years. He dominated Marquez to pick up a twelve round decision. [details]
Hatton-Pacquiao: 8.8 mil
Delahoya - Mayorga: 7.6 mil
Trinidad-vargas: 7.4 mil
Mayweather-Marquez: 6.8 mil
The attendance was significantly higher than Cotto-Margarito. And over 90% of tickets sold at face value. In all, it did better than I expected it would.Comment
