"cherrypick"? No.
That doesn't even make sense when you're going up to fight an undefeated champion.
Canelo did what he did to make headlines and draw money.
Roy talking about Andrade - nobody wants to see that.
Benavidez? Maybe but Bivol was obviously a way bigger danger than Benavidez. Toppling Bivol would have been history making.
Tarver calling it a "duck gone wrong" - don't really fully agree with that either. The host nailed it: Light heavyweight became relevant when Canelo fought there. That's what Canelo really wanted to use his star power and draw money while making history. Not just fighting every 'eye test' put in front of him.
It's actually funny since Roy's decline was from him moving up and down in weight. He knows why he went back down but didn't stay there, he had the same vision Canelo has. So just say, "I did that to be great, it didn't work either".Comment

Just because Nelo was favourite it's a cherry pick? Nelo shouldn't have been favourite stop downplaying bivol and overlaying neloLast edited by hugh grant; 12-27-2022, 08:51 AM.Comment

I think they knew he was good in general, but looked at his last few performances where he seemed a bit flat and felt it’s a very winnable fight. Eddie Hearn pretty much admitted that’s the only reason Canelo fought Bivol.
I suppose you can call that a cherry pick though. I just thought it was a massive misjudgement on Bivol’s level.
on here before the fight, I didn’t fancy Canelo to beat Bivol. Bivol is better in almost every department and felt he was fighting to the level of his opponents. As long as Bivol could show he belongs at the top level, then stylistically it was an awful fight for Canelo.
I think Canelo has had so much smoke blown up his arse for the past few years that he felt he was this invincible monster puncher and would be too much for Bivol and then got a rude awakening. His power has always been overrated, he’s a sharp puncher but not really heavy handed per se. He has awful stamina too, and fairly mediocre foot speed. Good luck beating Bivol with those (lack of) attributes. You’re in trouble when you can’t match a bigger man’s work rate or hand speed. Canelo was out of his depth. Looking for single shots v Bivol? Good luck.
Canelo will never take that rematch, no matter how much he says he will when he’s asked.Last edited by deathofaclown; 12-27-2022, 08:52 AM.Comment

Originally posted by Chris MannixDid you think Dmirty Bivol had this type of performance in him?Originally posted by Eddie HearnHonestly, probably not.
You know you look off the back of there’s a lot of fighters Chris that have come off performances you know in the pandemic, through the pandemic, they looked a little bit flat. You look at Dmitry Bivol you know against Craig Richards and before that against Castillo, those performances didn’t tell you that, that form would beat Canelo Alvarez

Originally posted by Eddie HearnBut there was nothing in your last 2 fights, in his last 2 fights, there's nothing that shows he could do that.
Originally posted by Dmitry BivolIf not my last 2 fights, I didn't get this fight?Originally posted by Eddie HearnTrue, true.
Originally posted by DmitryBivolWe didn’t know why I was being overlooked. I think there are two reasons. The first, the main one, many people bet on Canelo. And the second - if you analyze my recent fights, then people might think that I somehow didn’t box very well. But without these fights, I likely would not have got a fight with Alvarez.Comment

I also think, if Bivol's game, the only way to TRULY know is to do the fight at 168, now that Canelo was tested at Bivol's weight, let's see how he does at his natural weight, because if Bivol wipes the floor with him again, it proves that Canelo was just outclassed, but if Canelo shows up and looks dominant at 168, it just means that he was undersized. We don't know unless they fight at matching weight.
The theory is that Bivol wins regardless - but it's only a theory. Let's prove it so we can truly know, because if Canelo beats Bivol at 168, it validates what Jones is saying (going up in weight), but if Canelo gets schooled again at his natural weight, it validates what Tarver is saying (the guy is just better than you).Comment

If Canelo wants to prove he is not amcherrypicker and ducker he needs to fight these fighters that fans want to see him fight
- Beterbiev
- Benavidez
- Morrell
- Usyk (Canelo repeatedly says in interviews he believes he can beat Usyk and wants to fight him. He needs to prove it then)Comment

ARROGANCE was the reason why Canelo bit off more than he could chew. I was happy to see Bivol easily eat that big, slow undefeated Zurdo.
NOW, I’d love to see Bivol fight a REAL THREAT and a real good fighter. That’s Beterbiev. That’s a REAL fight.
As far as Canelo. It’s time to retire. He’s done plenty and is DECLINING. Can he still make great money for 3 years? Of course, but he doesn’t need it. Hope he leaves the game. I enjoyed watching him.Last edited by MONGOOSE66; 12-27-2022, 11:19 PM.Comment
