BUT, it's for a title he lacks.

It's in his best interest to do the one fight at a loss and recoup it later.

Chances are, he's not confident he wins, which is the real reason he wants more money.
I agree. IMO, Prograis takes him out although without getting some heavy resistance from Ramirez. It's a high risk for Ramirez and his status as a decent draw in the sport and he knows that. If you can make good money fighting lesser competition and still be popular, power to him. But he should know that he's gonna be accused of ducking for turning down a guaranteed title shot being that he seemingly avoided Prograis when he was his mandatory. We'll see over time.

Also for those who jump to conclusions about Ramirez not having the heart to get into the ring with Prograis well I seem to remember Progrey as being a bit of a complaining fighter(about money) during World Boxing super series right ? Did he not want to pull out due to money.? Has not the issue of money come up several times with Progrey before, reguarding taking fights yes it has.. Was he called a fearful fighter at that time ? So it cuts both ways with getting a fight made. I don;t know what is in the mind of Ramirez really don't care to, He is most likely speaking the truth as he see's it. There are no fights around at this time of the year so we will get a lot of grey matter on the matter of fighters hearts, there skills or lack there of ... Until some fights show up on the screen and in the ring these type of stories will show up.....Just how it goes.
I agree on some of this. But the WBSS situation didn't seem like Prograis wanted to avoid fighting anybody. He won his title and used it as leverage to put pressure on them to get his bread and keep the show going. Ramirez is doing the same thing IMO, using his status as a draw to negotiate better terms for himself. It just looks bad on him being that he seemingly avoided Prograis when he had a title and is playing hardball now that shoe is on the other foot. Can never knock a fighter for trying to get more money with the risks they take getting in the ring. But Ramirez should know the backlash he was gonna get by taking the stance he's taken. Power to both these guys regardless and hopefully they can settle in the ring sooner rather than later.

If he were getting paid substantially more to face Commey than you can say, "ok get paid" but I doubt he's getting significantly more for Commey and no title.

            Like a hostage video.
Just saw that video. Ramirez looked like a ****roach in a chicken dance. Guy was stuttering and said that Commey is not next and kept talking about minimum pay in his contract without even knowing what is the bid for the fight.

            Ramirez clearly chickened out.

I agree. I understand what you're saying as a fan of the sport. Commey seems to be less of a risk at this point to him and he's probably more known than Prograis due to having more exposure over the years so he'll probably get a pass for now of he does fight him. He seems to be content with the route he's taken regardless what other's think. He's taking all the risk and all that outside talk of ducking doesn't seem to bother him so far so he has to get respect for that. But Prograis' name will be linked to him for a bit so who knows how long it'll be till all that talk of ducking will get to him(if it ever does).

This is a great fans for BOXING fans but this is hardly a "Big Fight" like Jose claims. If it was a big fight ESPN and Top Rank would have won the purse bid or would have counter offered something to Regis.

The fact is neither fighter is a draw.....Jose is only a draw in Fresno, which nobody outside of Fresno cares about. And even then his tickets go on sell for very cheap. If he were a big draw they would put him in Staples Center, but clearly Bob Arum doesn't have that level on confidence in his selling ability.

And Regis vs Zepeda didn't do numbers in the Carson venue either.

The correct play would be for Jose Ramirez to convince Bob Arum and negotiate him a slightly better deal with Regis Prograis, take the 40%, convince Regis to fight on ESPN, and for both of them to be realistic. But this is boxing so we all know that won't happen.

This guy isn't the superstar he thinks he is. What he is, is his promoters favorite fighter. He has mixed results against top competition. Squeaked out a decision in his best win. I dunno, he's a really good gritty fighter, but I never thought he was special. There are so many guys at jr welter that I think beat him around at this point. I dont think he'll ever be champ again and he doesn't really want to try. Duck. A Prograis fight would shut his door.

This guy is so full of bullshit that it stinks! We've heard this type of double talk before. This is a clear duck by Jose Ramirez. I've never seen a fighter of Mexican descent display this much cowardice in my life. I've always thought that Mexican and Mexican American fighters don't fuck around but obviously this guy missed the memo.
