Boxing fans have their own agendas and narratives. They believe, or claim to believe, whatever it is they want to be true.
Why do people act like Anthony Joshua ducked Wilder ?

This is a pointless argument.
You're misunderstanding Wilder's tweet. Wilder signed to give Fury a rematch shortly after Joshua regained his titles from Ruiz. The undefeated Fury, who many believed won the first fight against Wilder, was considered the tougher challenge for Wilder than fighting Joshua after he split his fights with Ruiz.
So why would we criticize Wilder for giving the undefeated Fury a rematch for less money than was on offer to face the recently defeated Joshua? Doesn't make any sense. Wilder should be applauded for taking the tougher fight, even if the money was a little less.
DAZN/Matchroom made an actual, real, huge offer before the Ruiz loss - more than he made for Fury - nobody denies this is the case, not even Wilder.
PBC/Team Wilder cannot say the same. Theres nothing concrete/legit from their side, other than a rejection of a career high payday for no reason.
You can say that Wilder wanted the harder fight, that's only in hindsight. Reality is he only ever took to he Fury fight int he first place, because he thought Fury was done.
Anyway, done with this pointlessness, there really is no debate here.Comment

Who exactly was DAZN going to deliver? After Wilder beat Breazeale, Wilder fought a rematch with the PBC's Luis Ortiz and a rematch with Top Rank's Tyson Fury. Joshua had lost. And Andy Ruiz was under contract to give Joshua a rematch.
"Under the contract terms contemplated by DAZN, if Joshua lost or was otherwise unavailable to fight Wilder, Deontay would have received a $40 million purse from DAZN to fight the best (in terms of marketability and skill) available opponent in each of his next two fights. It would have been DAZN's responsibility to deliver Joshua or another opponent."
https://www.boxingscene.com/what-if-...-offer--150953
So the offer guaranteed Deontay $20million for Beazeale then $80million for his next 2 fights, whether they were against AJ or somebody else. It was a fantastic offer, which is why nobody could believe Deontay turned it down ... until his fanboys started using their imaginations and inventing all kinds of crazy excuses for him, the same way they did after he got rag-dolled by Fury.
So who EXACTLY was DAZN going to pay Deontay Wilder $40 MILLION to DEFEND against? Because it wasn't going to be Fury, Joshua, Ruiz or Ortiz?
Are you seriously arguing DAZN would've paid Wilder $60 MILLION for two fights against Breazeale and TBA? That IS an amazing deal, considering you don't think Wilder actually got the $20 million purses for Ortiz or Fury. Almost too good to actually BE TRUE.
Wilder signed the deal he did. It worked out fine for him. He didn't have to spend YEARS on the shelf trying to fend off the WBC and waiting for Anthony Joshua to get his act together.
Wilder made roughly $95 million of the $100 million DAZN dangled in front of him. Wilder wasted Breazeale and Luis Ortiz in their return. He fought a three-fight historic series with Fury that linked them together in boxing history. And he blew out Helenius in a round. And he's now the #1 contender, both Fury and Usyk want to face him in the new year ... and he may even fight Ruiz in a fan-friendly eliminator if he chooses ... and fans respect him now more than they did when he was the WBC champion because he proved his fighting heart.
Seems like everything worked out just fine for him.
Meanwhile, Joshua is looking to fight a Demsey McKean-type sometime next year, if he can find a trainer before that.
I don't get the vitriole around Wilder's contract signing. We didn't miss anything. I'm a huge fan of the heavyweights. If we missed something, I'd be mad. But we didn't.
Joshua quit against Ruiz. That was the end of the "dream fight" between the two undefeated world champs.
Wilder SWITCHING TO DAZN would've DEPRIVED us of the classic heavyweight fights WE DID get. There's no point in complaing about what you didn't get when we got so much.
Then again, I'm a glass-half-full type of person.Last edited by Dubblechin; 12-22-2022, 10:01 AM.Comment

Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder I, happened because stylistically, both Fury & Wilder believed they had the beating of each other 'More so than Anthony Joshua'.
This is how the situation back then, always looked to me.
Once upon a time both Fury & Wilder were apprehensive of Joshua. With Fury being the less apprehensive.
Now, I actually think Wilder is the least apprehensive. I honestly think on some level Tyson Fury is bothered by Joshua, stylistically it is a winnable fight for Joshua etc.

Let me guess, you think Team Joshua’s offers were legitimate whilst team Wilders were not.
“Must defend Matchroom!” “Must defend Matchroom!!” “Must defend Matchroom!!!”
