  • Comments Thread For: Robert Garcia: Whoever Training Joshua Next Will Look Good Because Next Opponent Will Be Easy

Robert Garcia is aware that people will inevitably compare him to whoever becomes the next trainer of Anthony Joshua. The veteran trainer from Southern California joined the former heavyweight champion's team earlier this year ahead of his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk in August. Garcia worked in tandem with Joshua's longtime assistant trainer, Angel

It sound's to me like Robert is defending himself, before the fact. He's a very good trainer he shouldn't find it necessary to do so.
There's no telling how accurate his statement will be, if anything it might be completely wrong, because Joshua's match up's have been tough.
There hasn't been any easy work for him in year's, I don't expect that his next opponent will be easy work either.

Garcia brought the best out in Joshua but didn't like the 'diva' attitude to him running the show and say when and if he is training or not on certain days. He wanted him to go to camp in America to train along side his fighters but after , in my opinion, a career best but but losing performance to Usyk again he is on his travels ,yet again.Garcia knows already the disappointing plan for Joshua and is clear in what he says regards easy fights but there's a Joshua following in UK that will buy almost anything Hearn and Joshua peddle. I only wish after his reasonable last effort Joshua would choose a decent opponent and not a walk over but I agree with Garcia who seems to know the story.

I like Garcia, he does plain talk and won't be just a yes man. The thing is Joshua lost to one of the best boxer on planet. No shame. Move on

Naturally, he thought he was getting an experience former unified champion, not a spoiled, mentally broken, weak leader.

I thought Robert Garcia did a good job with AJ, he was not far off beating Usyk and did well to execute the game plan Garcia implemented. Usyk just stepped up a gear and pulled away from the 10th onwards and AJ didn't have the gas tank to step up with him. I presume they won't work together again as Garcia mentioned not wanting to have another camp in the UK, which is a shame.

Yes, that's how Garcia's comments struck me too. However I do think that Joshua will be matched very carefully and relatively easy next. Thanks.

Robert has backtracked slightly in his latest interview saying it was not aimed at Joshua but all fighters when the original question was regarding only Joshua.? They all want a bit of that Joshua money , one thing that stays clear is the easy opponents , we'll see soon enough.
