Comments Thread For: 'Prince' Naseem Hamed vs. Kevin Kelley at 25

By Thomas Gerbasi - "Life moves pretty fast," said Ferris Bueller, and ain't that the truth. I was reminded of that fact earlier this week when social media was filled with reminders that 25 years ago, on December 19, 1997, Prince Naseem Hamed made his United States debut at Madison Square Garden against Kevin Kelley.

One of the best fights I’ve ever seen. Naz was box office.

The Prince's career was another huge disappointment. Once he got exposed by Barrera he was never the same fighter. That fight mentally ruined him. Marco Antonio Barrera had beaten all the life and fight out of him.

I remember that exciting fight, as well as Barrera's great victory over Hamed.

Time sure went way too swiftly, and we're all much older . What can we do, it is what it is.

Thinking of this year, not a great or good year for boxing, regarding the big fights we really wanted.

This is the fight that got me hooked as a boxing fan. I was a major fan of prince. He was tremendously exciting and as Frank Warren always said was a promoter dream. He knew how to Market himself and his fights were exciting. The UK audience loved him.

This fight was pure entertainment. Crazy knockdowns. Back and forth. Little nods back and forth to each other when they went down. It was awesome. Wish I saw this live.
