You are the one who has trained the multiple world champs, not that Fernandez guy who was lead in the corner.

Whatever enthusiasm I had about AJ in the rematch was immediately zapped when I saw Garcia was not the main voice in the corner after round 1 - he had a dumb look on his face while as leaned in thru the ropes, always waiting for the other guy to stop talking. I thought OK next round, he'll get in there, but he never did. To make it worse, he was the one stroking AJ's ego, telling him he's winning. Garcia is one of my favorite trainers so it made it all the more dubious. I wanted him to take charge and slap both of them Atlas or Steward style!

I'm not in tune with AJ's psyche but some other posters nailed it on this, that Garcia was just gonna take the check and not going to be able to do much. I think it could still be a good pairing but Garcia has to tell him leave all the baggage or he's not doing it
I don't think that's the case Joshua doesn't listen and makes the rules it was him who kept Fernandez as the lead.

This is the interview where they pulled this from, as much as I hate giving Elie views Garcia explains everything in detail here.

Yes, I remember reading some articles during fight week that Garcia might not have had the head duties during camp. But, I thought for sure on fight night he was be the voice. Others knew from the jump that Garcia wasn't going to be able to do much because they know AJ was going to set the rules regardless. But can you see a Steward type just being OK with all that during the heat of a HW championship fight?

Sounds like he needs a Teddy Atlas.

Garcia's comments make me think of Hagler's quote:
"It's tough to get out of bed to do roadwork at 5am when you're sleeping in silk pyjamas."

Definitely agree with Garcia's opinion tho. Not sure that hunger or type of honest self-assessment is still possible with AJ.

I used to regard Garcia as a solid, intelligent trainer. My opinion has changed. Anybody who said he was the wrong trainer for AJ because he only trains little guys is absolutely right. Why the hell does Garcia keep bringing up Bam Rodriguez when he’s talking about the former heavyweight champion of the world?!? Does he think these two are going to spar? Does he think AJ gives a flying f**k about Bam Rodriguez or Josh Franco? AJ sh.its bigger than those guys. AJ still has plenty to learn in this game, but he’s not going to learn it from Robert Garcia.

I heard that Joshua likes positive reinforcement in the gym. He needs his coach to say "GREAT JOB CHAMP for every round he spars" regardless of performance. **** won't fly in the US, take that **** back to your island m8

AJ is like a stubborn ass dog, that wants to be pack leader and doesn't listen. He's always had raw potential, but even with all his accomplishments, he's only realized about 25% of it. I think the only way he'll ever be at his best, he needs someone he's actually scared of, someone with a short temper with a few bodies under his belt, like a Jack Blackburn. Somebody that'll stick a damn pistol in his face and tell him to go run 6 miles through the woods in boots. No one around like that anymore. The closest thing to that kind of discipline today is Ann Wolfe. Derek James also seems to be stern and a good teacher of balance and fundamentals. If u put Ann Wolfe and Derek James together and u have something similar to Blackburn, except he had over 300 pro fights of experience and did time for murder
