If basically people have to beat you to even get a shot at the upper echelon because you generally give everyone problems, just can't get W's when they matter, you're a gatekeeper.

Pedraza is that. He has never and will never beat an A-Level. Which is fine, but that's what it is.

Isn’t this the definition of a contender? Lol. Contender and gatekeeper are not the same. In any case, seems like we’ll never see eye-to-eye on this, so let’s agree to disagree. Let’s just hope for good, competitive fight.

        You skipped the important part.

If you can't get W's when it matters .

Contenders win some and lose some at the top. Not lose every top fight.

Eh? Nah Pedraza is a contender, not a gatekeeper. A gatekeeper is someone like Hank Lundy. Or Takam for the heavyweights. Someone outside of the top 15, or 20, guarding the entrance

A gatekeeper also blocks others from getting to the A-Level fights, because they can't beat any A-Level themselves yet they give everyone tough work.

Hank Lundy is nowhere near a gatekeeper, he loses more than he wins.

PEDvetkin was another example of a gatekeeper.

I would argue that Young Eubank is also a gatekeeper, because he damn sure can't beat the A-Level.

okay, I’ll give you one last example. Not sure if you remember hector camacho… if you do, did you consider him a contender or gatekeeper?

I think most would agree he was a contender yet he never won every time he stepped up. I view Pedraza similar.

                ...uh, what?

                Camacho_drops_Leonard.jpg
                Plus...

                Beat Duran twice
                Beat Ray Mancini
                Beat Greg Haugen, arguably twice

So...!? Macho was the textbook definition of a contender.

Sorry man, I was one too many drinks in when I replied to you lol. My point was Camacho always lost when he stepped up, yet he’s considered top 3 fighter out of PR.

C’mon bro, you know we can’t count those Ws you mentioned. Leonard was literally retired for 6 yrs when he fought Camacho, Duran and Mancini were both wayyy past their prime. When Camacho did face elite competition in their prime, he lost, similar to Pedraza.

He also beat Rafael "Bazooka" Limon, Jose Luis Ramirez, Edwin Rosario, Cornelius Boza-Edwards, and Vinny Pazienza which are pretty solid wins.

Nuh uh, let's not do that.

If we're going to trash Macho for when he fought guys, we need to be consistent and criticize Crawford's resume as even worse. At least the guys Macho fought still drew money.
