Weight drained at 40. He couldn't make 160 without hurting himself for the Taylor fights. He's talked about it himself. The jump to LHW proves it as far as I'm concerned. His punch output nearly doubles, and in every fight since (including against Calzaghe) his punch stats are higher than against Taylor.

biggest excuse in the world imo...it wasn't that he couldn't throw punches against taylor, he wouldn't throw punches against taylor...for fear that he was gonna get hit back hard...in the rematch, richardson was begging him to stand in there with taylor...in ring mag richardson gave the excuse that bernard is a more "cerebral" fighter, whatever the f**k that means...you want the quote?...i guess he had to preserve some energy for bitching to the judges about losing on the scorecards or somethin'..

I don't need it. Bernard had to conserve energy while in the ring for those fights, he said so himself and he did the same things against Wright and Calzaghe, only those times he wasn't completely ****** down to the bone and it didn't completely zap him. He held up better at LH.

please man he was fighting a walking corpse in tarver...pavlik made him look like a speed demon...winky it wasn't like he was throwing a ton of punches, just mugged and mauled winky to a disputed decision...calzaghe was another fight he was losing on the cards and didn't want to step in and pull it out...face it man hopkins is overrated...ALWAYS an excuse when he loses...green jermaine taylor beat him unanimously and people still want to make up excuses...he's able to scale down to 160 all these years, now its he was weight drained...give me a break...

So much for Nard only caring about his legacy eh?
Whats fighting a shot Roy Jones who was pimped slapped and embarrassed by Joe Calzaghe do for his legacy?
Man, you guys are sick. If Bernard moves up to 200 pounds and fought Adamek, he's fighting a robotic whiteboy that chad dawson beat. If Bernard fights Dawson he's ducking Roy Jones because he's scared of Jones!!

Did you see all the **** this board was saying when bernard said he didn't want to fight jones? So many people dissing hopkins saying he's a ***** and he's scared. So he takes the fight and ya'll still aint happy.

            :smh:

I'm generally speaking of course. There was A LOT of **** talking about bernard going on and how he's ducking Roy, a lot.

And for the record, djtmal is a troll

Both of these fighters have skill left. Roy's still got enough speed to trouble Bernard. Bernard is arguably as good as he ever has been.

The only thing I can see making Roy lose is his legs, but then Hopkins is pretty damn old too. If it gets scrappy, then Bernard wins because Roy gets caught on the ropes a lot now. If Bernard tries to pot shot and move, Roy has a decent chance for an upset. I'm rooting for Roy in this one, and think if he can summon up a last ditch great performance, he can win.

Hopkins needs no excuses for the first fight against Taylor. He won handily, 9-3. Disgusting announcing and disgusting scorecards. Can't even believe people could score round ONE for Taylor, let alone the first six.
