When Fighters Improve Against Their Stylistic Nightmare

    how often does this happen?

    Alvarez got handled by Mayweather

years later another fleet footed stylish outfighter in Bivol gives Alvarez another boxing lesson

we all know how pacquiao Marquez ultimately turned out

38 year old Floyd Patterson was competitive in the rematch against post-exile Ali before the fight was stopped on cuts

Clenelo fought and arguably beat Lara shortly after though. He also improved noticeably between the first and second Golovkin fight.

Golovkin is not a stylistic challenge for Alvarez the same way Mayweather Junior & Bivol were.

That is why people must give Alvarez credit for wanting to rematch Bivol etc.

Golovkin is a straight forward fight for Alvarez technically, a very tough match up 'But tactically he knows how to fight Golovkin'.

I suppose Ruiz was widely regarded as kryptonite for Joshua. Fast hands, decent movement, great chin. Joshua changed up style and beat him comfortably.

To this day I don't think Joshua gets enough credit for that. Ruiz' post title diet probably didn't help.

Mayweather and Bivol fight nothing alike. Caleb Plant might be a closer example (albeit a poor man’s version) and Canelo definitely improved against that style there.

He definitely showed improvements but Ruiz showed up a blob who half assed the camp. I honestly wouldnât mind a third fight if Ruiz can show up again.

To be fair, Bivol is twice the size of Floyd, so it was more than just a stylistic nightmare. Just out of curiosity, how many boxers has Floyd fought against where he gave up the height and reach advantage? Anyone know?

Floyd --> Between Castillo 1 and Castillo 2
Fury --> Between Wilder 1 and Wilder 2
Canelo --> Beat the crap out of Lara, Saunders and Plant after Floyd. He also schooled Trout. Bivol and Floyd are night and day. They're nothing similar except their distance control.
Floyd --> Between Maidana 1 and Maidana 2
Pacquiao --> Just after the first Morales fight.
Inoue --> Between Donaire 1 and Donaire 2

                    Does McGregor count?

Floyd has freakishly long arms for a short 5 ft 8 man

                    26 inch arm length

Oscar and Mosley are taller but their arms aren’t as long
