In reality it’s the end of the progressive line for him , as the games so bad Hearn will rinse and return him afew times with the whytes of this world and he will make money but as a progressive athlete now he’s done , there are no manny stewards around these days unfortunately to recognise and maximise strengths, minimise weaknesses , formulate individual training structures and get the best out of set their ways accomplished fighters , we a lost a very clever guy when manny passed .

AJ needs a high-end sport psychologist, it's his mental game that is lacking, but it would be very hard to keep it all together up where he is not all people can handle the pressure of it all

Eubank Jr is the only high profile fighter I can think of atm that he trains, but he also trains slot of young guys. He was the head trainer for Zechariah Lewis when he fought in Dallas against one of the guys from my gym Devon Jones

What can Roy teach him? Roy was unconventional and heavily reliant on his crazy speed and athleticism. Joshua is a workmanlike HW in his mid 30s with average speed.

I dont think there is any more real improvement AJ can make to his game at this point. I dont buy the idea that he got worse after the Ruiz loss either. Maybe he got a bit more gun shy but his overall boxing ability hasnt declined, he just isnt good enough to beat Usyk and never was.

I dont think AJ is gonna stick around much longer anyway. He doesnt seem the kind of guy who is carry on fighting until hes pushing 40. Imo hes got 3-5 fights and 2-3 years left. Hopefully one of them is Wilder, and if he wins that then a Fury fight.

I was literally going to write exactly what you wrote. Roy did not rely on boxing fundamentals at all. And AJ is your typical blue collar boxer with the basic 1-2 style.
He’s not about to learn how to shuffle or throw leaping left hooks or check hooks or even the step-overhand right punch that Roy threw with precision.

AJ is done. Two or three fights and he’s out of the game. He can still redeem himself if he beats Wilder and make a gazillion in the process.

All he needs is a new heart, chin, mind, a set of balls and a new body that's not stiff as ****.
Roy's probably better off just training someone else

Roy was the most athletically gifted boxer I've ever seen, with a bag of tricks unlike any other.

I'm not so sure he's a great trainer and cornerman, but I guess only the fighters that work with him can give a more detailed opinion.

I think he had good fundamentals, but not like a Bernard Hopkins, who could fight well late into his 40's and over 50, because he did the basics extremely well, with a dirty trick or two for sure.

I'm surprised that Hopkins hasn't gone into training, but then again, he's in the promoting side of business. Also, training fighters is a hard slog day in and day out, unless one says you'll only train certain top fighters a few mths a year.

AJ is still a top heavyweight. Of course, you can train and improve every part of your arsenal, but not your chin.

So, a guy who had reflexes faster than a mongoose is going to be training a guy who is basically a body builder. Color me doubtful. Jones made his career by sticking his chin out, holding his hands down, and baiting opponents to take a swing. And then with his supernatural reflexes, he could slip the punch and tag the other guy. With his phenomenally fast reaction times and KO power in either hand, RJJ was amazing to watch.

Sometimes his dependence on sheer athleticism didn't work out so well, like when Tarver managed to catch him flush.

I don't know exactly what he's got planned for Joshua, but it better not look anything like the old RJJ style or he'll get his student knocked tee-totally out. Joshua's reflexes are just nothing at all like Jones'.

Called it. I knew Robert Garcia was out the moment I saw him running his mouth about why Joshua lost to Usyk.

Without doubt Jones knows his stuff and speaks sense , I had the privilege to catch a few words of wisdom from him at the Calzaghe weigh in BUT I'm not sure what Roy can bring. Joshua boxed as well as he ever could but still fell short v Usyk twice and Jones was a master boxer , I don't see Jones really improving that. For me Joshua has got to box as he can and find his opening and then let his power go and not be afraid to use what got him there. Maybe Joshua is aware that there are much better fighters out there than the old and faded crop he's been feeding on and needs Jones for a mental boost . Lets not forget against Usyk who had looked average against Chisora he look okay but chose to fight master boxer with boxing.
