  • It's weird people claim to care about mental health, but they are OK with all these athletes and role models acting literally insane. Look at the Jake Paul picture for this article. He is literally making an insane asylum type of face. The excuse is always "he scored a touchdown, he's happy." "He made weight, he's just happy." Bullcrap. You can celebrate without promoting insanity to all the kids watching.

I am not picking on Jake Paul. Way too many celebs and athletes do this not just him.

Consider the source. Occasionally you get classy men who enter sports, like Paul's opponent... a gentleman, a sportsman, a class act. But for every such individual we get the Nate Diaz' the Paul brothers, etc.

I am a big proponent regarding Paul's contribution to boxing. His self promotion on social media is really what all fighters should be doing, cutting out the promoters except on an as needed basis. But as an individual? Paul looks like a neanderthal... No neck, squat, hairy, inelegant... and his intelligence is all basic shifty hustling. He would get taken to the woodshed if he fought a boxer, it is so obvious when watching him lunge and how he looked when he got clocked.

What kids and others should be saying is: "geez if this average, shifty, loser looking individual can do this, imagine what I could do!" oscar De La Hoya... just with his pretty face, not only made himself a millionare plus, he made Floyd one as well! Guys like Bud and Garcia, guys who have more moxi (not even talking boxing skills) could create an empire for themselves if they had someone social media savy to guide them on social media.

If you watch... Paul does not need to fix his fights with MMA guys. What he does is take a very measured approach. he wins rounds on a few more punches thrown here and there... MMA guys let him get away with mistakes, like lunging, etc, and 8 round fights. he has a formula.

Might be getting confused with someone else. I don't recall making a prediction on this fight.

Another thing is, like, with Woodley, it was well known that in MMA he would often just sit back and do virtually nothing for minutes on end, then would occasionally explode, then go back to doing nothing. Clearly that doesnt lend itself to 3 minute rounds and makes it easy to steal rounds from him. Plus his punches in MMA were often set up by his wrestling, or at least the threat of it. Jake obviously knows all this too. Hes got a clever little hustle going on.

Sorry had not seen this post: Great insights! If you look at the sport of MMA it is based exclusively on mastering the ring/ the contest using arts that initially had a different focus. As MMA developed, and more techniques were incorporated, it became more practical to study "MMA" as opposed to Jiu Jutsu, Boxing, Kick boxing, etc. The result of this transformation made MMA guys very habitual/predictable in their approach. As new technical approachs would suddenly enter the Octogan, they would be assimilated.

All Paul had/has to do is understand the habits that make MMA fighters predictable. For example, you can lunge all day... these guys do not have the acumen to punish with a boxing counter attack. Footwork wise? punches are not set up... And of course the old: "well you can't jab in MMA because you will get taken down" axiom. but the real kicker (pardon the pun) is that these MMA guys NEVER seem to practice the simple and ultra important act of keeping a hand up at the head at all times. All these points were on display when Silvia, who fought beautifully, gracefully, and even effectively, fought Paul:

                1. Anderson used no jab, even though it looked like he had reach, and had footwork to use it
                2. Anderson let Paul lunge with his head open and did not attack it.
                3. Anderson cut the ring off, but did not set up his shots to go where he would force Paul.
                4. Anderson would sporadically drop his back guard... paul's whole game is waiting for this opportunity to throw his cross.

having said such: Silvia did throw a nice uppercut, did have nice footwork, and I feel it he had just fought careless in the 7th, instead of the 8th round, could have maybe stopped Paul. Waiting for the last round made it a desperate attempt that caused the slip/knock down.
