Fights you really wanted to see but never happened.

With the ship potentially sailing on Spence vs Crawford, which other fights that you really wanted to see never happened?

Mine is actually a pretty recent one: Kovalev vs Stevenson, that would have been f***ing epic man, I remember they fought on the same card in like 2013, when Stevenson dominated Bellew and Kovalev scored a brutal KO against Sillakh. HBO were talking about making a unification for spring 2014. I was so excited about that potential matchup but unfortunately it never happened.

Got a few more honourable mentions but I’ll see if anyone else mentions them.

PS: If they happened years later they still happened- so no reason to bring up the same old May-Pac debate.

    Wilder-AJ in 2018 is a huge one

followed by Dmitry Pirog vs GGG

    Additionally you got

    Mikey Garcia v Lomachenko
    Peterson v Khan 2
Gary Russell Jr vs Leo Santa Cruz

          Great post.

3 of those were on my shortlist:

GGG-Pirog- which was signed I believe and then Pirog got injured and retired.

Loma vs Garcia- I was so high on Mikey, shame he just chased paydays and went well beyond his natural weight.

          Wilder-AJ too.

That Bowe/Lewis fight never happening is a tragic event. Looking back, it is the proof that legacy fights end up truly being important. Had Bowe fought and beaten Lewis, his entire career narrative is way more positive. Without it, he is respected but not looked as anywhere near the champion of Lewis or Holyfield (who he beat twice).

This is why Joshua/Wilder not happening when both were undefeated and champs matters. It is why Fury needs Usyk and vice versa. It is why Spence against Crawford not happening is a big deal. Legacy is defined by who you fight, not the belts you wear.

Great shout. Should have been made before Salido derailed the Lopez train.

Some posters already mentioned like Juanma vs Gamboa,Mikey Loma etc

Chino vs La Maquina and Sergio vs GGG were at the top of my wishlist as well.

Was Rock Newman’s fault IMO, an interesting and funny character but has no business managing a HE champion. He took Bowe on that ****** tour around Africa and had him drop the belt.
