I'm sorry, but as a Brit, Claressa Shields seems like a way bigger face.

Her bout with Serrano apparently drew 1.5 million viewers on DAZN and yet Shields v Marshall did 2 million in the UK alone.

Shields has also taken a shot at MMA, if she was to ever make an appearance in the UFC (which I'm surprised she hasn't already) she would be an even bigger name stateside.

On top of this, Taylor seems to have had a bunch of questionable decisions in her career.

I dunno, I'm just getting the impressions Taylor is another Anthony Joshua type. Hype to the moon by the British press only to be likely usurped by more talented fighters who were really superior skills wise all along but never received the same recognition.

The award lol I like Katie a lot, but she will never be as marketable as fury. Women's boxing is on the rise and that's cool, but to suggest anyone in it is more marketable than the men on the list is kind of mental and to me just seems like a bit of pandering

Seriously, the modern economic orthodoxy used as the basis upon which this analysis rests is many things, but it is absolutely NOT ‘left leaning’, and it gets tiring having to repeat this.

Capitalism doesn’t give a rat’s ass about social inequality beyond pretending, in the most superficial way, that they are interested for the sole purpose of aggressively retaining or expanding capital. Hence, sports expanding into non-traditional marketplaces. such as the female demographic, in order to mitigate the critical mass, and ultimate decline of male interest in resulting from intensifying competition.

If capitalism really was interested in social politics then they would support the very egalitarian overhauls of society that would end capitalism, itself.

I think the analysis is a bit off then lmao Two most popular women in boxing did good numbers on free dazn...I take nothing away from that. Put Fury vs AJ on free dazn and see what happens smh. It would obliterate anything the women could do, hence the men would be more marketable

You beat me to it, totally baffled by the use of “left leaning” for an article about a boxer being marketable. I suspect it’s of the same mindset of this incessant usage of the term “woke”

Arrhhg what are you guys missing? I was a "left leaning" person until about 5 years ago. There is a lot of things that have influenced me to change my stance-like this example. In my opinion this seems like a bit of pandering as I truly don't see how Taylor is more marketable than Tyson Fury. Go ahead and put her fights on ppv and let's see how marketable she is...I think we all know the answer to that.

If Women's boxing was Marketable then these "top women" wouldn't be getting paid pennies, marketable my left testicle.

Football might be because these women are actually selling out arenas shít.

For example when I go on youtube and some random blonde footballer comes up in the short videos all the time? Ashleigh leguhman or some crap like that, which makes no sense to me because everything else if UFC/boxing related...

You are way off the mark im sorry. I agree that claressa is a more well rounded better fighter but it doesn't make her more marketable. Taylor is super skillful she just has that in and out amateur style and i guess her achilles heel is fighting off the back foot.

Unlike AJ she was unstoppable as an amateur whereas AJ got multiple questionable decisions which led him to gold in London. Taylor was multiple time world amateur champion even claressa has stated her admiration for Taylor considering she brought women's boxing to the mainstream
