That's about right, his career is coming to an end for the reason's you've stated, but he's trying to milk the sport by avoiding certain fighter's who are younger, taller, can box, take a punch, and have power to hurt him.

Canelo has been fighting in the 170's on fight night since at least the Mayweather fight. He could have (and probably should have) been fighting at LHW all along (like Bivol). He's not tall but he has been the weight-bully in nearly all of his fights below LHW. And then forces his opponents to rehydration clauses when he does fight LHW. He's gotten away with some BS.

Boxing should have day of fight weigh-ins, and 5lb rehydration maximum. LHW's shouldn't be fighting WW's SWW's, MW's and SMW's. The way it is ... it's like having HW's fight LHW's and MW's. The outcome would rarely be a surprise.

If Alvarez fights him now he won't get any credit. Everyone would say after the fact, "we knew he was gonna beat him, I mean who has benavidez fought? He was still green"

But if benavidez fights and beats someone like charlo, then canelo comes in and beats him, he would get all the deserved credit. That's what canelo is waiting for.

Benavidez lost his WBC belt twice... Once for fighting on ******* and once for failing to make weight. If he would have been a professional he would have gotten the fight when Canelo was making history and the Hall of Fame by unifying the division. I like Benavidez but he snorted and ate his way to the back of the line. Canelo owes him less than nothing.

De la Hoya is right. Benavidez is too big and too fast for Canelo, just as Bivol was. Benavidez also has better lungs than Canelo and he pressures non-stop like Bivol. Canelo knows this. He is a talented fighter, but like a lot of the current crop of fighters since Mayweather, he stubbornly avoids the best challengers or waits for them to age out of their prime before agreeing to fight them. Benavides is younger than Canelo so the longer this fight is delayed, the less chance Canelo has to win. Which is why Canelo will never agree to it. Canelo is a good businessman, but he can't be considered one of boxing's all-time greats. To be great you need more than skills. You have to seek out and overcome the biggest challenges, and Canelo refuses to do that.

Canelo has the audacity to tell a report who asked him if he would fight Benavidez, "don't disrespect me" how in the hell did that question disrespect him?
How about the enormous disrespect have for boxing fan's, in lobbing so hard to fight Yildrim who wouldn't last more than one or two rounds with Benavidez.
Now that was real disrespect for the boxing community as a whole, and he didn't have no shame at all in perpetrating that fraud, instead of fighting the legitimate
                trilogy against GGG.
For all of his past accomplishment's, he is starting to tarnish his legacy going back for a few years now.
Couldn’t agree more mate. And the more boxing fans hold him to account the better. The days of sycophantic nationalist fans covering for him needs to stop

Spot on, some fools are just getting too easily impressed by DB when he doesn't even have any notable marquee win not to mention he lost belts...twice

These challengers need to beat someone worthwhile to make it worth Nel os time.

Plenty of Canelo's past opponents had beat no one. Why the double-standard for Benavidez?

And he is the mandatory .... meaning he has climbed the available pile of contenders per the boxing org. Is he supposed to create a "somebody" to fight? Canelo will be his "somebody".
